MP3 Cutter & Audio Trimmer

This MP3 cutter trims songs, podcasts and recordings on a visual waveform: drag two handles, preview the selection, add a fade in or out and save. Without fades, an MP3 is cut by copying its original frames, so the part you keep is not re-encoded at all. It also cuts WAV, M4A, FLAC and OGG, and the soundtrack of videos, without uploading anything.

How to cut an MP3

  1. Step 1: Drop one audio file (or a video) on the box above. Its waveform appears on the timeline.

  2. Step 2: Drag the start and end handles, or play the track and press I and O to set them at the playhead. Space plays your selection.

  3. Step 3: Add a Fade in or Fade out if the cut starts or stops abruptly; leave both at 0 for a lossless cut.

  4. Step 4: Press Cut and download the trimmed file.

How it runs

Hardware video engine
Video is decoded and encoded by your device’s media hardware through WebCodecs — usually several times faster than real time.
Web Audio
Audio is processed with the browser’s built-in Web Audio engine, sample-accurate and fast.

Is cutting an MP3 lossless?

Yes, when you keep the same format and add no fade. The cutter then copies the compressed MP3 frames that fall inside your selection into a new file, so the audio is bit-for-bit what it was. Adding a fade, or changing the format, means the selection is decoded and encoded again, which costs a little quality.

When a cut is lossless
Your fileNo fades, Save as: Same as inputWith fades or another format
MP3Frames copied, no re-encodeRe-encoded (bitrate close to the original by default)
M4A / AACFrames copied, no re-encodeRe-encoded
FLACFrames copiedDecoded and written again, still lossless as FLAC or WAV
OGG / OpusFrames copiedRe-encoded
WAVSamples rewritten at the original bit depth: exact and losslessLossless if saved as WAV or FLAC
Video (MP4, MOV, MKV…)Soundtrack copied into an audio file when its codec allowsSoundtrack re-encoded to the format you choose
Copied cuts land on the nearest compressed frame, a few hundredths of a second from the handle. WAV cuts are sample-exact.

Every control works from the keyboard as well as by dragging, which helps when you need a precise cut point in a long podcast. The selection is shown in seconds and can also be typed into the start and end fields.

Fade in and fade out explained

A fade in raises the volume from silence to full over the time you set; a fade out does the reverse at the end. Both run from 0 to 10 seconds in half-second steps and are applied only to the part you keep. Short fades of 0.5–1 s hide the click of a hard cut; 3–5 s fades suit a song that should drift out at the end of a video or presentation.

A fade can never be longer than half the selection, so a 4-second clip with a 5-second fade gets a 2-second fade. Because fades change the samples, a faded cut is always re-encoded; choose WAV or FLAC under Save as if you want the result itself to be lossless.

Cut the audio out of a video

Drop an MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM video and the cutter shows its soundtrack on the timeline. The part you select is saved as an audio file, so you can lift a line of dialogue, a song from a recital or a clip of a lecture without a video editor. With Same as input, AAC soundtracks become M4A; pick MP3 under Save as for the widest compatibility.

To keep the picture as well, use trim video instead. To save the whole soundtrack without cutting, extract audio from video is quicker.

Why use this audio cutter

  • Lossless when it can be. MP3, M4A, FLAC and OGG cuts without fades are copied, not re-encoded, and take a moment even for long files.
  • No upload. The file is read by your browser, so interviews, voice memos and unreleased songs stay on your device.
  • No watermark or sign-up. The clip you download is just your audio, with nothing added before or after it.
  • Any length. Long recordings are read in chunks rather than loaded at once, so hour-long podcasts work on a desktop.

Trim audio on iPhone, Android, Windows or Mac

The cutter works the same in every modern browser, including on phones, where the waveform handles are sized for touch.

iPhone and iPad

Open this page in Safari, tap the drop zone and pick a song from Files or a video from Photos. Voice Memos can trim recordings too, but only inside that app; this cutter saves an MP3 or M4A you can share anywhere.

Android

In Chrome, tap the drop zone and choose the file. The cut is saved to Downloads, where music players and messaging apps can find it.

Windows 10 and 11

Drag the file in from File Explorer onto the drop zone in Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Nothing is installed, and the clip is saved to your Downloads folder.

Mac

Drag the file in from Finder. QuickTime Player can trim audio with Edit › Trim, but it exports M4A only, never MP3.

Tips & troubleshooting

  • Making a ringtone? The ringtone maker caps the length for iPhone and saves .m4r or Android MP3 directly.

  • Need to remove a section from the middle? Cut the part before it and the part after it as two files, then put them back together with the audio joiner.

  • Long pauses in a recording? Remove silence from audio finds and cuts every gap automatically instead of one at a time.

  • Hear a click at the cut point? Add a 0.5 s fade in or fade out; it is short enough to keep the timing.

  • Cutting the same intro from many episodes? Note the start and end times once, then type them into the time fields for each file instead of dragging.

MP3 Cutter & Audio Trimmer FAQ

How do I cut an MP3 online?

Drop the MP3 on this page, drag the two handles on the waveform around the part you want to keep, press Space to check it, then press Cut. The trimmed MP3 is saved to your device. Nothing is uploaded, so it is quick even for long files.

Is cutting an MP3 lossless?

Yes, as long as you keep Save as on Same as input and leave both fades at 0. The original MP3 frames inside your selection are copied unchanged. A fade or a different output format means the clip is re-encoded.

How do I add a fade in or fade out to an MP3?

Set the Fade in or Fade out slider to the length you want, from 0.5 to 10 seconds, before pressing Cut. Fades are applied only to the part you keep and cannot be longer than half of it.

Can I cut the audio out of a video?

Yes. Drop the video instead of an audio file, select the part you want and press Cut. You get an audio file of just that part; choose MP3 under Save as if the default M4A does not suit your player.

Can I make several cuts at once?

Not in one pass. The cutter keeps one continuous selection per run. Cut each part separately, then combine them with the audio joiner if you need them in one file.

Is this MP3 cutter safe to use?

Yes. The file is cut inside your browser and never sent to a server, there is nothing to install and no account. You can check it by switching to airplane mode after the page loads; the cutter keeps working.
