Free Online GIF Editor & Tools

Make GIFs and animated WebP from video or photos, then resize, crop and optimise them. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Make a GIF from a video, photos or your screen

Video to GIF turns any clip into a GIF with your frame rate, width and loop count, and shows the size before it renders. There are pages for MP4 to GIF, iPhone MOV to GIF and WebM to GIF. The GIF maker builds an animation from photos, and screen to GIF records a window straight to GIF.

Make a GIF smaller

The GIF compressor aims for a size: 128 KB for a Slack emoji, 256 KB for a Discord emoji, or any number you type. It trims colors, drops frames and scales down until the file fits, and compress GIF for Discord has the Discord targets ready. A GIF resizer or crop GIF also cuts size.

Edit a GIF: speed, direction and captions

Each GIF editor tool works on every frame and keeps the animation. The GIF speed changer rewrites frame delays without re-encoding the pictures. Reverse GIF plays it backwards or as a forward-and-back boomerang, and add text to GIF puts a caption with an outline, box or shadow across the whole loop.

Convert GIFs to MP4, WebP or PNG frames

GIF to MP4 makes a far smaller H.264 video for X, Instagram and WhatsApp. GIF to WebP keeps it an animated image at a fraction of the size, and the animated WebP maker starts from a video. WebP to GIF goes back for older apps, and GIF to PNG saves every frame as an image in a ZIP.

GIF vs animated WebP vs MP4: which should you use?

Use GIF when it must play everywhere, including chat apps and email. Use animated WebP on websites, where it looks better and loads faster. Use MP4 for anything long or detailed: it is the smallest of the three, but it plays as a video rather than an image.

GIF tools FAQ

How do I edit a GIF online?

Open the tool for the change you want, drop the GIF and press the button. Resizing, cropping, captions, speed and reversing all run in your browser, so the GIF is never uploaded, and the result downloads without a watermark.

How do I make a GIF smaller?

Use fewer colors (flat graphics often look fine with 64), skip every second or third frame, or scale it down. The GIF compressor does all three to reach a target in KB. If the platform accepts video, converting to MP4 shrinks it much further.

Can I edit a GIF without losing the animation?

Yes. Resize, crop, caption and reverse process every frame and keep the original timing, and the speed changer only rewrites the delay between frames. Changing the pixels means the colors are picked again, so check fine gradients afterwards.

Can I edit a GIF frame by frame?

Not directly; there is no frame-by-frame editor. Split the GIF into PNG frames with the GIF splitter, change or delete the frames you need in any image tool, then rebuild the animation with the GIF maker, which lets you set the delay.
