Convert, sync, edit, translate and burn in subtitles — SRT, VTT, ASS and more. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

Convert SRT, VTT, ASS and other subtitle formats

The subtitle converter reads and writes SRT, VTT, ASS/SSA, SBV, SUB, SMI, LRC, TTML and JSON, and saves the text as UTF-8 so accented letters stop showing as gibberish. The common pairs have their own pages: SRT to VTT for web players, VTT to SRT for desktop players, and ASS to SRT, which drops the styling.

Fix subtitles that are out of sync

The subtitle sync tool fixes three kinds of drift. If every line is early or late by the same amount, shift them all by milliseconds. If the gap grows through the film, set two reference points and the timing is stretched between them. If the file was made for a different frame rate, convert between 23.976 and 25 fps.

Edit, clean and merge subtitle files

The subtitle editor online shows each cue against the video and its waveform, so you can fix text and timing, split or merge lines, or write an SRT from scratch. To remove SDH from subtitles, strip [MUSIC] tags and speaker names. Merge SRT files stacks two languages, and SRT to TXT makes a readable transcript.

Add subtitles to a video or burn them in

Add subtitles to video puts an SRT, VTT or ASS file into an MP4 or MKV as a track viewers can switch off, without touching the picture. To burn subtitles into video, pick a font, outline or box and a position; the text becomes part of the image. To pull a track out of a file, extract subtitles from MKV or MP4.

Generate or translate subtitles with AI

No subtitle file yet? The subtitle generator listens to the speech in a video and writes captions on your device, ready to burn in or export as SRT. Translate subtitles converts an SRT or VTT into another language and keeps every timestamp, and video to text gives a plain transcript instead.

Subtitle tools FAQ

What is an SRT file?

An SRT file is a plain-text subtitle file. Each cue has a number, a start and end time such as 00:01:02,500 --> 00:01:04,000, and one or two lines of text. Almost every player, editor and video site reads it, which makes it the safest format to share.

What is the difference between SRT and VTT?

VTT starts with a WEBVTT header, uses a full stop instead of a comma before the milliseconds, and can position and style cues for web players. SRT is simpler and more widely supported offline. Converting either way keeps the text and the timing.

Soft subtitles vs hardcoded subtitles: which should I use?

Use soft subtitles when viewers should be able to turn them off or pick a language; adding them is fast and leaves the picture untouched. Burn them in for Instagram, TikTok or any player that ignores subtitle tracks, accepting that the video is re-encoded.

How do I fix subtitles that are out of sync?

Find out what kind of drift you have. A constant delay needs a simple shift, a delay that grows needs two-point sync, and a steady drift from 23.976 to 25 fps needs a frame-rate fix. The subtitle sync tool does all three in your browser.

Are my subtitle files uploaded?

No. Subtitles are converted, synced and edited in your browser, and videos are muxed or burned on your own device. That keeps unreleased scripts and private recordings off other people’s servers.
