Image Resizer: Resize Photos by Pixels or %

This image resizer changes the pixel size of your photos by exact pixels, a percentage or the longest side, for one picture or a few hundred at once. Downsizing uses Lanczos resampling, so edges and text stay crisp, and you decide whether a new shape is filled, padded or stretched. It all runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded and there is no cap on how many files you add.

How to resize an image

  1. Step 1: Drop your photos on the box above. JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, GIF and SVG all work, and you can mix them.

  2. Step 2: Under Resize by, pick Pixels, Percentage, Longest side or Social size and type your number.

  3. Step 3: If you set both width and height, choose Fill (crop), Fit (pad) or Stretch for photos whose shape differs.

Settings explained

Width × height
Leave one side empty to keep the aspect ratio.
Longest side
Works for mixed portrait and landscape batches.
Fit
Only matters when both sides are set and the shape changes.

How it runs

WebAssembly codecs
Images are encoded with Squoosh-grade codecs (MozJPEG, WebP, AVIF, OxiPNG, JPEG XL). Each codec loads only when you use it.
GPU canvas
Pixels are drawn and composited with the GPU-accelerated canvas.

Pixels, percentage or longest side: which resize mode to use

Use Pixels when a site or form names an exact size, Percentage when you only want everything smaller, and Longest side for a folder that mixes portrait and landscape shots. Social size jumps straight to platform presets such as an Instagram portrait post.

The four ways to resize an image
ModeWhat you typeKeeps the shape?Best for
PixelsWidth, height or both (default 1920 px wide)Yes with one side; with both, you choose fill, fit or stretchExact sizes a website, shop or form asks for
Percentage5% to 200% (default 50%)AlwaysMaking a batch smaller by the same amount
Longest sideOne number in px (default 1920)AlwaysMixed portrait and landscape photos
Social sizeA preset such as Instagram portrait or YouTube thumbnailFill or fit decidesPosts, thumbnails, covers and link previews
Leave one side of Pixels empty and the other is calculated from the photo, so nothing is squashed.

How to resize an image without losing quality

Making a photo smaller does not cost visible quality if the resampling is good. ProMedia scales down with a Lanczos-3 filter, applied in linear light in a background worker, which keeps fine lines and lettering sharp instead of blurry or jagged. The photo is then saved once: at 88% quality for JPG and WebP by default (adjustable under Quality), or losslessly as PNG.

Enlarging is different. No resizer can invent detail that the camera never captured, so a 600 px picture blown up to 2400 px looks soft. That is why Never enlarge is on by default: small images in a batch stay at their size instead of being stretched. Vector SVG files are the exception and are redrawn sharply at any size. For real extra detail on a small photo, the AI image upscaler is the better tool.

What does resizing do to the file size?

File size follows the pixel count, and pixels shrink with the square of the scale. Halve the width and height and only a quarter of the pixels are left, so a JPG usually ends up at roughly a quarter of its old size; detailed photos stay a little bigger than flat graphics. The table shows what happens to a typical 12-megapixel phone photo.

Resize an image to exact pixels: fill, fit or stretch

When you type both a width and a height that do not match the photo’s shape, something has to give. Take the same 4:3 photo resized to 1080×1080: Fill (crop) scales it until the square is covered and trims the overflow from the centre, about a quarter of the width. Fit (pad) scales it to 1080×810 and adds 135 px bars above and below in the Padding colour you choose. Stretch forces it to 1080×1080 and makes everything look wider.

Fill suits thumbnails and grids, Fit suits product shots and screenshots where nothing may be cut, and Stretch is only safe for textures and backgrounds. To choose exactly which part stays, crop first with the image cropper and resize afterwards.

Resize many photos at once

Drop a whole folder: every photo gets the same settings and the results come back as one ZIP. If one file is damaged, the others still finish. For mixed orientations, Longest side is the setting to use, because a portrait and a landscape photo both end up with 1920 px on their longer edge. With Pixels and a fixed width, portrait photos would come out much taller than landscape ones.

  • Mixed formats are fine. HEIC photos come out as JPG and SVG or ICO as PNG when Save as is left on Same as input.
  • Animated GIF and WebP stay animated. Every frame is scaled, so a resized GIF still plays.
  • Metadata is not copied. Resized files carry no EXIF, so camera details and GPS location are left behind.

Resize a photo on iPhone, Android, Windows or Mac

This bulk image resizer works the same in any current browser, with nothing to install. Here is how it compares with the tools already on each system.

iPhone and iPad

The Photos app can crop but has no pixel resize. Open this page in Safari, tap the drop zone, pick photos from your library and the resized copies land in Downloads in the Files app.

Android

Google Photos has no resize option either. In Chrome, tap the drop zone, choose the photos and download the ZIP; Files by Google opens it.

Windows 10 and 11

Paint’s Resize button handles one picture at a time by percentage or pixels. For a folder, drag the files from File Explorer into this page instead.

Mac

Preview’s Tools → Adjust Size resizes photos, and several at once if you select them all in the sidebar. Use this page when you need fill or pad to an exact shape, WebP output or social presets.

Tips & troubleshooting

  • Posting to Instagram, YouTube or LinkedIn? The social media image resizer has every platform size in one list.

  • For the web, resize to the largest size your layout shows (often 1600–2000 px wide) and then save as WebP with the WebP converter for smaller files.

  • Screenshots and logos with text stay sharper as PNG: set Save as to PNG under Advanced settings.

  • Want the photo smaller in KB without changing its pixels? Lower the quality in the image compressor instead of resizing.

  • Fill crops from the centre. If the subject sits near an edge, crop it first so nothing important is trimmed.

Image Resizer FAQ

How do I resize an image without losing quality?

Make it smaller, not bigger. Downsizing with Lanczos resampling keeps edges sharp, and the default 88% JPG quality looks identical to the original. Enlarging cannot add real detail, which is why Never enlarge is on by default.

How do I resize an image to exact pixels?

Choose Pixels and type both the width and the height. If the photo has a different shape, Fill crops the overflow from the centre, Fit adds bars in the colour you pick, and Stretch distorts it to fit.

How do I resize many photos at once?

Select or drop them all together. Every photo gets the same setting and you download one ZIP. Longest side is the best choice when the batch mixes portrait and landscape photos.

What does resizing do to the file size?

It falls roughly with the pixel count. Scaling to 50% leaves a quarter of the pixels, so the file is usually about a quarter of the size. To hit a size in KB instead, use compress image to KB.

How do I resize a photo on iPhone or Android?

Open this page in Safari or Chrome, tap the drop zone and pick the photos. They are resized on the phone itself and saved to your Downloads folder; no app is needed.

Does resizing remove the photo’s location data?

Yes. The resized copy is saved fresh from the pixels, so EXIF details such as GPS location, camera model and date are not carried over. Your original file is not changed.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no upload limit because there is no upload. Very large photos can exceed what a phone browser can handle: Safari on iPhone and iPad lets a web page edit images of up to about 16 megapixels. There are no daily caps and no watermark.
