TS to MP4 Converter

Convert TS to MP4 in seconds. Recordings from OBS, screen recorders, TV tuners and stream captures are MPEG transport streams, and when they hold H.264 or HEVC, ProMedia copies the video into an MP4 without re-encoding: same picture, a file that seeks properly and plays everywhere. M2TS files work too. It all runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

How to convert TS to MP4

  1. Step 1: Drop your TS or M2TS files on the box above.

  2. Step 2: Leave Quality on Balanced. It only applies to tracks that cannot be copied, such as MPEG-2 video.

  3. Step 3: Press Convert. H.264 and HEVC are copied; other audio becomes AAC.

  4. Step 4: Download the MP4 files, or all of them as a ZIP.

Settings explained

Quality
Only used when a stream has to be re-encoded. Compatible streams are copied with no quality loss.
  • Faster: Smaller file, quickest export
  • Balanced: Good quality at a sensible size
  • Best quality: Largest file, slowest export
Video codec
Automatic copies the original video stream when the new format can hold it, so there is no quality loss.
  • Automatic: Best codec the format and your device support
  • H.264 (AVC): Plays everywhere
  • H.265 (HEVC): About 35% smaller, newer devices
  • VP9: Web / WebM
  • AV1: Smallest files, slowest to encode
Always re-encode
Off: compatible streams are copied instantly and losslessly. On: every stream is re-encoded, which can fix playback glitches.

How it runs

Hardware video engine
Video is decoded and encoded by your device’s media hardware through WebCodecs — usually several times faster than real time.
FFmpeg (when needed)
Older formats and a few filters use FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. It downloads once (about 31 MB) the first time it is needed and is cached for offline use.

Does TS to MP4 lose quality?

Not when the stream is H.264 or HEVC, which covers OBS and most modern recorders: the video is copied, so the MP4 is identical frame for frame. Older broadcast recordings with MPEG-2 video are re-encoded to H.264, because MP4 players rarely handle MPEG-2.

The FFmpeg engine (about 31 MB) downloads only when a track needs it and is cached afterwards.

What is a TS file?

A TS file is an MPEG transport stream: video and audio cut into small 188-byte packets, a design made for broadcasting, where a receiver has to recover from lost data mid-stream. TV recorders, IPTV boxes, HLS streams and OBS (when set to record MPEG-TS) all write it. M2TS is the variant used on Blu-ray discs, with 192-byte packets that carry an extra timestamp.

The robustness that suits broadcasting makes TS awkward as a file: players may show the wrong length, seeking can be slow, and editors and phones often refuse it.

How to convert OBS recordings to MP4

Drop the .ts files from your OBS recording folder here and press Convert; the H.264 or HEVC video is copied, so even an hour-long session takes about as long as reading the file from disk. OBS also has its own File → Remux Recordings for files on the same computer. For future sessions, MKV is a common crash-safe choice, and MKV to MP4 converts those the same way.

Glitches, gaps and stream captures

Broadcast and IPTV captures sometimes contain gaps where packets were lost. The MP4 keeps those gaps, so a jump or a moment of frozen picture in the TS stays in the MP4. If the converted file shows the wrong length or loses audio sync, run it through repair video with Deep repair, which rebuilds the timeline. Each .ts file converts on its own; join several parts afterwards with merge videos.

Tips & troubleshooting

  • Need it smaller for sharing? A remux keeps the original size, so follow up with the video compressor.

  • Only want a highlight? Convert first, then cut it with the video trimmer.

  • TV recording with several audio languages? Only the main track is guaranteed to come through, so check the MP4 before deleting the TS.

TS to MP4 Converter FAQ

What is a TS file?

An MPEG transport stream, the format used for TV broadcasts, IPTV, HLS streaming and some recorders such as OBS. It is built to survive lost data during transmission, which makes it safe to record but awkward to play, seek and edit as a file.

Does TS to MP4 lose quality?

No, when the video is H.264 or HEVC: it is copied into the MP4 unchanged. Older MPEG-2 recordings are re-encoded to H.264, which at Balanced or Best quality looks very close to the original.

How do I convert M2TS to MP4?

The same way: drop the M2TS file here and press Convert. M2TS is a transport stream with 192-byte packets, and its H.264 video is copied into the MP4 just like a regular TS.

How do I convert OBS recordings to MP4?

Drop the .ts files from your OBS recordings folder on this page and press Convert. The video is copied, not re-encoded, so it takes about as long as reading the file. OBS’s own File → Remux Recordings does the same on the recording PC.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no upload limit because there is no upload. Videos are read in chunks straight from disk, so multi-gigabyte files work on desktop computers; phones are limited by their memory. There are no daily caps and no watermark.
