Boomerang Video Maker
This boomerang video maker turns a clip you already have into a forward-and-back loop: a toast, a jump, a hair flip or a wave crashing and un-crashing. Camera-app boomerangs only work while you are recording; here you can use any video in your gallery. The sound is muted by default, the file never leaves your device, and no watermark is added.

Settings explained
- Quality
- Only used when a stream has to be re-encoded. Compatible streams are copied with no quality loss.
- Faster: Smaller file, quickest export
- Balanced: Good quality at a sensible size
- Best quality: Largest file, slowest export
Formats
Batch-friendly: add many files and they are processed one after another — if one fails, the rest still finish.
How it runs
- Hardware video engine
- Video is decoded and encoded by your device’s media hardware through WebCodecs — usually several times faster than real time.
- FFmpeg (when needed)
- Older formats and a few filters use FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. It downloads once (about 31 MB) the first time it is needed and is cached for offline use.
How long will my boomerang be?
A boomerang plays the clip forward and then backward, so it lasts about twice as long as the clip you drop. Loop it afterwards if you want it to repeat on platforms that do not loop videos by themselves.
| Your clip | Boomerang | Looped 5 times |
|---|---|---|
| 1 s | About 2 s | About 10 s |
| 2 s | About 4 s | About 20 s |
| 3 s | About 6 s | About 30 s |
| 6 s | About 12 s | About 60 s |
Video to boomerang: existing clips vs the camera app
Instagram’s Boomerang mode records a short burst in its own camera and turns it into a loop on the spot; it cannot use a video you filmed earlier. On iPhone, the Bounce effect does something similar, but only for Live Photos. A boomerang made here works from any clip: an old video in your gallery, a screen recording or a clip a friend sent you, in MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV.
How long should a boomerang be?
Short. A boomerang effect video works best on one or two seconds of clear, fast movement: a jump, a splash, a cheers, a spin. Longer clips turn into a slow back-and-forth that loses the snap. Use the video trimmer to cut the moment out of a longer video first; the trim is lossless, and the boomerang itself is encoded once at the Quality set under Advanced settings.
Make a boomerang on iPhone or Android
Open this page in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android, tap the drop zone and choose the clip from your photo library. Short clips process quickly on a phone. Save the result to Photos or your gallery, then post it to Stories, Reels or a chat like any video. For a GIF instead of a video, convert the boomerang with Video to GIF.
Tips & troubleshooting
Want the clip to run backwards only, without the forward half? Use Reverse Video.
Slow the boomerang down for drama with the slow motion video maker.
Film the action against a still background; boomerangs look best when only the subject moves.
Boomerang Video Maker FAQ
How do I make a boomerang from an existing video?
Drop the video here, keep the audio muted and press Apply. The clip is played forward, then backward, and saved as one video you can post anywhere. Trim long videos to a second or two of action first.
How do I boomerang a video on iPhone?
Open this page in Safari, tap the drop zone, choose Photo Library and pick the clip. Press Apply and save the boomerang to Photos. For Live Photos, the built-in Bounce effect in Photos is another option.
Does a boomerang video have sound?
Not by default, which matches the classic boomerang look. Choose Forward, then reversed under Audio to keep the soundtrack; it plays normally for the first half and backwards for the second.
Is your clip uploaded anywhere?
No. Your clip is processed by your own browser on your own device. There is no server that receives files, so nothing is uploaded, stored or shared. You can even switch to airplane mode once the page has loaded.
