Increase Video Volume – Video Volume Booster
Increase video volume by up to 20 dB, or turn a loud clip down by the same amount, and save it as a new file. A limiter catches the peaks so boosted speech does not crackle or clip. Only the soundtrack is processed: the video stream is copied untouched, so the picture keeps its original quality. Everything happens in your browser, with no upload.

How to make a video louder
Step 1: Drop one or more videos on the box above.
Step 2: Drag Volume change up to boost the sound (start with +6 dB) or below zero to lower it.
Step 3: Keep Prevent clipping on so the loudest moments are held just under the maximum.
Step 4: Press Apply, then download and listen to the result before sharing.

Settings explained
- Volume change
- +6 dB doubles the signal level; about +10 dB sounds twice as loud.
- Prevent clipping
- A limiter catches peaks so boosted audio does not crackle.
Formats
Batch-friendly: add many files and they are processed one after another — if one fails, the rest still finish.
How it runs
- Hardware video engine
- Video is decoded and encoded by your device’s media hardware through WebCodecs — usually several times faster than real time.
- Web Audio
- Audio is processed with the browser’s built-in Web Audio engine, sample-accurate and fast.
- FFmpeg (when needed)
- Older formats and a few filters use FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. It downloads once (about 31 MB) the first time it is needed and is cached for offline use.
How much louder is +6 dB? A quick decibel guide
Decibels are logarithmic. Every +6 dB doubles the signal level, and most listeners hear about +10 dB as twice as loud. The slider goes from −20 dB to +20 dB in 1 dB steps.
| Setting | Signal level | How it sounds |
|---|---|---|
| +3 dB | 1.41× | Slightly louder |
| +6 dB (default) | 2× | Louder; a good first try |
| +10 dB | 3.16× | About twice as loud to the ear |
| +12 dB | 3.98× | Much louder; background noise becomes obvious |
| +20 dB (maximum) | 10× | Rescue setting for very quiet recordings |
| −6 dB | 0.5× | Noticeably quieter |
| −20 dB (minimum) | 0.1× | Very quiet, but not muted |
Increase video volume without distortion
Distortion happens when a boosted waveform tries to go past the loudest value a file can store and gets chopped off. With Prevent clipping on, a true-peak limiter holds every peak just under that ceiling (−1 dBTP) while the quieter parts rise with your setting. Speech gets fuller instead of crackly.
The limiter cannot remove noise that is already in the recording, and a big boost makes hiss, wind and room echo louder too. Above about +12 dB, run the clip through Remove background noise first, then boost the cleaner sound here.
Why is my video volume so low?
Usually because of how it was recorded: the phone was far from the speaker, the microphone was covered or pointed away, or the camera kept the level low to protect loud moments. Screen recordings often capture system sound at a modest level too. None of that is fixed by the player’s volume slider, which only changes playback on one device. Boosting the soundtrack itself makes the clip louder for everyone who watches it, on any phone or platform.
Boost video volume on iPhone, Android or a computer
Phone gallery apps mostly offer a mute button, not a boost: the iPhone Photos app can only switch the sound off. Desktop players such as VLC can play louder than 100%, but that does not change the file. This video volume booster saves a louder copy you can send anywhere. Open the page in Safari or Chrome, pick one clip or several, and the original stays untouched.
Tips & troubleshooting
For podcasts and spoken videos with a target loudness, extract the sound and use Normalize Audio on it instead of guessing a dB value.
Boosting an audio file rather than a video? The volume booster works on MP3, M4A and WAV.
Want no sound at all? Remove audio from video deletes the track without touching the picture.
Background music too loud under a voice-over? Lower the clip here by −6 dB, then mix a new track with Add Music to Video.
Change Video Volume FAQ
How do I increase the volume of a video that is already recorded?
Drop it here, set Volume change to +6 dB, keep Prevent clipping on and press Apply. The soundtrack is rebuilt louder and the video is copied unchanged. Listen to the result and run it again from the original with a higher value if needed.
How much can you boost a video’s volume?
Up to +20 dB, which is ten times the signal level. Faint recordings can need that much, but noise rises with the voice, so values above +12 dB work best after cleaning the audio.
Does increasing video volume reduce quality?
The picture is not touched: the video stream is copied. The soundtrack is re-encoded once, at 192 kbps for stereo (about 115 kbps for mono), which is plenty for speech and most music. Keep the limiter on to avoid clipping.
How do I increase video volume on Android?
Open this page in Chrome, tap the drop zone and pick the clip from your gallery. Set the boost, press Apply, and the louder copy is saved to Downloads, where your gallery app finds it.
Can I lower the volume of a video too?
Yes. Drag the slider below zero, down to −20 dB, which is a tenth of the original level. To silence the clip completely, use Remove audio from video instead.
Is your video uploaded anywhere?
No. Your video is processed by your own browser on your own device. There is no server that receives files, so nothing is uploaded, stored or shared. You can even switch to airplane mode once the page has loaded.
