Remove Audio from Video (Mute Video)

Remove audio from video files in a few seconds and keep the picture exactly as it was. ProMedia deletes every sound track and copies the video stream unchanged, with no re-encoding, so quality and resolution are untouched and even long recordings finish quickly. Drop one clip or a whole batch; everything happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

Batch-friendly: add many files and they are processed one after another — if one fails, the rest still finish.

How it runs

Hardware video engine
Video is decoded and encoded by your device’s media hardware through WebCodecs — usually several times faster than real time.
FFmpeg (when needed)
Older formats and a few filters use FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. It downloads once (about 31 MB) the first time it is needed and is cached for offline use.

Remove, replace, lower or clean up the sound?

Muting deletes the soundtrack completely. If you want something less drastic, one of the related tools is a better fit; all of them copy the picture without re-encoding it.

Can you remove audio from a video without losing quality?

Yes, and that is the normal case here. The video stream is copied packet by packet into a new file of the same format, so the picture is identical to the original: same resolution, same bitrate, same frames. The file only gets smaller by the size of the sound track it no longer carries.

MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM are muted directly in the browser. Older formats such as AVI, FLV or WMV are handled by the FFmpeg engine, which also copies the video into the same kind of file; only if that copy is impossible is the video converted to H.264, and the result card says so.

Why make a video silent?

  • Copyrighted music. Background music in a clip can get a post muted or blocked on social platforms; a silent version avoids that.
  • Private conversations. Remove voices in the background before sharing footage of your street, office or family event.
  • Wind and noise. A silent clip with music added later often sounds better than a noisy original.
  • Presentations and backgrounds. Looping visuals on a screen or in slides usually should not make a sound.

Remove sound from a video on iPhone, Android, Windows or Mac

This page mutes videos in any modern browser, including batches. The built-in apps can mute too, one clip at a time.

iPhone and iPad

In Photos, tap Edit, then the speaker icon in the top corner, then Done. Use this page in Safari for clips in the Files app or for several videos at once.

Android and Samsung

Google Photos and Samsung Gallery have a mute or volume control in their video editors. In Chrome here, select several clips and mute them all in one go.

Windows 11

Clipchamp can detach or mute the audio but re-exports the whole video. Dragging the file into Chrome or Edge here keeps the picture untouched.

Mac

QuickTime Player has Edit → Remove Audio for MOV and MP4 files. This page also handles MKV and WebM recordings.

Tips & troubleshooting

  • Muting before uploading a Reel or TikTok? Remove the sound here, then pick a track inside the app so it is licensed for the platform.

  • Want to keep the voices but drop the music? Try isolating the voice with the Vocal Remover, which accepts video; results depend on how the song was mixed.

  • Need a silent clip that also loops? Mute it, then repeat it with the video looper.

  • Muting does not shrink the picture. If the file is still too big to send, use the video compressor.

Mute Video FAQ

How do I remove audio from a video on iPhone?

Open the video in Photos, tap Edit, tap the speaker icon so it shows as muted, and tap Done. To mute several clips at once, open this page in Safari, choose them from Photo Library and press Mute.

Can you remove audio from a video without losing quality?

Yes. Only the sound tracks are removed; the video data is copied byte for byte into the new file, so the picture is identical and the file is slightly smaller.

How do I remove audio from a video on Windows 11?

Open this page in Edge or Chrome, drag the video in from File Explorer and press Mute. The silent copy lands in your Downloads folder, with the picture unchanged. Clipchamp can also mute, but it re-exports the video.

Can I remove the music from a video but keep the voices?

Not with muting, which removes all sound. Separating voice from music is a different job: the Vocal Remover can isolate centre-mixed vocals, and Remove background noise cleans hiss and hum around speech.

How do I remove audio and add new audio to a video?

Use Add Music to Video with Original sound set to Replace. It removes the old soundtrack and adds yours in one step, without re-encoding the picture.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no upload limit because there is no upload. Videos are read in chunks straight from disk, so multi-gigabyte files work on desktop computers; phones are limited by their memory. There are no daily caps and no watermark.
