Passport Photo Maker – Passport Size Photos at Home
AIThis passport photo maker turns a photo taken against any plain wall into a passport or visa photo at your country’s size: it finds your face, levels your eyes, replaces the background with white or another colour, and frames your head to the official proportions. Download a single photo or a 4×6 in print sheet. The face detection and background removal run on your device, so your face is never uploaded.

Step 2: Choose your country under Photo size, for example United States (2×2 in) or India (35×45 mm).
Step 3: Check the preview: the top of your head should touch the top of the oval guide and your chin its bottom. Drag the box to adjust, or use Auto-fit to face to reset it.

Passport photo sizes in mm, pixels and copies per sheet
Every size is produced at 300 dpi, the usual resolution for photo prints, so the file prints at exactly the right size at 100% scale. The last two columns show how many copies fit on each print sheet.

Taking a passport size photo at home: wall, distance, framing
Stand about half a metre in front of a plain, light wall, face the camera straight on with a neutral expression and both eyes open, and have someone take the photo from about a metre and a half away at eye level. Use the rear camera if you can; it is sharper than the selfie camera, and selfies taken at arm’s length distort the face.
Then drop the photo here. A small face detector finds your eyes and chin, levels a slightly tilted head, and frames it so the head fills the share of the photo your country expects. Replace background (on by default) cuts you out with a small AI model, about 7 MB, downloaded once after you agree, and puts you on white or the colour you choose.
How to take a passport photo at home without shadows
Shadows come from a single, hard light source. Face a large window in daylight, with no direct sun, so light falls evenly on both sides of your face; turn off overhead lights that cast shadows under the eyes and nose. Stand away from the wall so your own shadow falls behind you, out of the frame, and avoid the flash.
Background replacement removes shadows on the wall itself, but it cannot fix shadows on your face, so the lighting still matters. Glasses that reflect light, hair over the eyes and a tilted head are common reasons for rejection.
Passport photo size in India, in cm and pixels
The Indian passport photo is 35×45 mm, which is 3.5×4.5 cm. This tool produces it at 413×531 pixels at 300 dpi, with the head filling about three quarters of the height. Online application portals often add their own file rules, such as a maximum size in KB; if yours does, run the single photo through compress image to KB after creating it.
How to make a 2x2 photo on your phone
Open this page in Safari or Chrome, take or pick the photo, and keep United States (2×2 in) selected. The result is a 600×600 pixel square at 300 dpi, which prints at exactly 2×2 inches. Choose 4×6 in print sheet to fit several copies on one standard photo print, a standard size at photo kiosks and print shops.
Print passport photos on a 4×6 sheet
The 4×6 in sheet is laid out at 300 dpi with as many copies as fit and thin grey cut lines around each one. Order it as a normal 4×6 (10×15 cm) photo print, or print it at home on photo paper. Always print at 100% scale or “actual size”: “fit to page” or borderless settings enlarge the sheet slightly and every photo comes out too big. The A4 sheet is for home printers that cannot take 4×6 paper.
- Will it be accepted? ProMedia gets the size, the head proportions and the background right, but each country also has rules on expression, glasses, lighting and recency that only you can check.
- Private. Your face photo is processed in the browser and never uploaded.
- Visa and ID photos too. The same sizes make this a visa photo maker and ID photo maker as well; the United States (2×2 in) size is also used for US visas and by many other countries.
Tips & troubleshooting
Need a plain cut-out of yourself instead of a passport crop? Use the background remover.
If the automatic frame is off because of hair or a hat, drag the box yourself; your crop is used as drawn.
Uploading to an online form with a size limit? Create a single photo, then shrink it with compress image to KB or compress image to 50KB.
Take several shots and pick the sharpest one with even light; it is quicker than fixing a poor photo.

Open this page in your phone’s browser, pick the photo and keep the United States (2×2 in) size. You get a 600×600 pixel image that prints at exactly 2×2 inches.
How do I take a passport photo at home without shadows?
Face a bright window with no direct sun, switch off overhead lights, stand half a metre from the wall and skip the flash. Background replacement cleans up the wall, but light on your face must be even.
