Good to know
Settings explained
- Output format
- WebP and AVIF are typically 25–50% smaller than JPG at the same quality.
- Pixel size
- Some forms also ask for exact pixels (e.g. 200 × 230).
- Keep metadata (EXIF)
- Off removes camera details, dates and GPS location — safer when sharing. On keeps them.
Formats
Batch-friendly: add many files and they are processed one after another — if one fails, the rest still finish.
How it runs
- WebAssembly codecs
- Images are encoded with Squoosh-grade codecs (MozJPEG, WebP, AVIF, OxiPNG, JPEG XL). Each codec loads only when you use it.
- GPU canvas
- Pixels are drawn and composited with the GPU-accelerated canvas.
Can I compress any JPEG from MB to 50KB?
Yes. Even a multi-megabyte photo gets under 50 KB: the tool keeps the quality moderate and reduces the pixel size as much as needed. The table shows a 24-megapixel photo and two smaller ones compressed with this page. A fixed form size such as 350 × 450 fits easily, at near-maximum quality.
| Starting image | Result | Pixels | JPG quality |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24 MP photo (6000 × 4000), 881 KB | 47.8 KB | 1041 × 694 | 60% |
| 1536 × 1024 photo, 337 KB | 46.5 KB | 865 × 576 | 56% |
| 1122 × 1402 PNG photo, 2.0 MB | 46.2 KB | 678 × 847 | 53% |
| 1536 × 1024 photo at exact size 350 × 450 | 38.9 KB | 350 × 450 | 89% |
Where 50 KB limits come from
Application portals cap photos so millions of uploads stay manageable, and 50 KB is one of the most common ceilings. A frequent pattern is 20–50 KB for the photograph, sometimes with a required width and height in pixels or a print size in centimetres.
Whichever wording the notice uses, “reduce image size to 50 KB”, “resize image to 50 KB” or “maximum 50 KB”, the file has to be smaller than 50 KB, and a 50 KB photo is plenty for the small preview forms show.
Is it possible to compress to 50KB without losing quality?
For the size a form displays a photo, yes. Visible quality depends on how many bytes each pixel gets. A full 24-megapixel photo squeezed into 50 KB would look blocky, so the tool reduces it to around a thousand pixels wide first and then keeps the JPG quality near 60%, which looks clean on screen. If the form specifies smaller dimensions, quality climbs to nearly 90%, as the table shows.
What you cannot get is the original resolution at 50 KB. If a portal needs a large image, its limit will be higher, so check whether compress image to 100KB or 200KB matches it.
Reduce a photo to 50KB on a laptop or phone
The steps are the same in any current browser.
Windows laptop
Open this page in Chrome or Edge, drag the photo from File Explorer onto the box and press Compress. The file appears in your Downloads folder with “-50kb” in its name.
Mac
Drag the photo from Finder or the Photos app onto the box. The compressed JPG is saved to Downloads.
Android
In Chrome, tap the box and choose the photo from Gallery. Find the result in Downloads when the form asks you to select a file.
iPhone
In Safari, tap the box and choose the photo; HEIC is converted to JPG on the way. Save the result to Files so the upload dialog can find it.
Why use this 50 KB compressor
- Guaranteed under 50 KB, about 2% below the limit so strict checks pass.
- Smart sizing: quality first, pixels only when needed, never a stretched face.
- Private: application photos are processed on your device and never uploaded.
- Free and unlimited, with no account and no watermark.
Tips & troubleshooting
Face not centred? Crop to the right shape first with crop image; exact sizes here are cropped from the centre.
Your photo is already a JPG under 50 KB? It is never made bigger: if a fresh copy at 92% would not be smaller, the original is kept with only its metadata removed.
A signature field with a 20 KB limit? Use compress image to 20KB for that file.
Any other limit, like 30 KB or 80 KB? Type it on Compress Image to KB.
