Reverse GIF
Reverse GIF animations so they play backwards, or turn them into a boomerang that runs forwards, then back, with no jump at the loop point. Each frame keeps its own timing, and animated WebP files work too. This is a GIF editor, not a reverse image search: the GIF is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Formats
Batch-friendly: add many files and they are processed one after another — if one fails, the rest still finish.
How it runs
- GPU canvas
- Pixels are drawn and composited with the GPU-accelerated canvas.
- WebAssembly codecs
- Images are encoded with Squoosh-grade codecs (MozJPEG, WebP, AVIF, OxiPNG, JPEG XL). Each codec loads only when you use it.
Reverse vs boomerang: what each one does
Reverse plays the same frames in the opposite order, so the GIF keeps its length and size. Boomerang adds the reversed frames after the original ones, so the animation flows forwards and back without a jump when it loops.
| Effect | Frame order | Frames | Length and size |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reverse | 20, 19 … 1 | 20 | Same length; about the same size |
| Boomerang | 1 … 20, then 19 … 2 | 38 | Nearly double length and size |
How to make a boomerang GIF
Choose Boomerang and press Reverse, and this page works as a boomerang GIF maker for animations you already have. The GIF gains the reversed frames, so it moves forwards, then back, then forwards again on every loop. It works best on short clips with one clear motion: a jump, a toss, a head turn, a pour. Because the file roughly doubles, compress it afterwards with the GIF compressor if it has to fit a limit.
Starting from a video rather than a GIF? The boomerang video maker does the same with MP4 and other video files.
Can I reverse a GIF without losing quality?
Yes, in almost all cases. To play a GIF backwards, the frames are decoded, put in the new order and encoded again with the exact original colours whenever the GIF uses 255 colours or fewer, and nothing is resized or dithered. The result card shows Lossless colours when that happened. Each frame keeps its own delay, so a GIF with a long pause at the end will have that pause at the start.
Reverse a GIF on iPhone or Android
Open this page in Safari or Chrome on the phone, tap the drop zone and pick the GIF from Photos, Files or Downloads. After pressing Reverse, save the result: on an iPhone open it in Files and choose Share → Save Image so it lands in Photos as an animation; on Android it is already in Downloads.
Tips & troubleshooting
Make a boomerang faster with the GIF speed changer at 1.5× or 2×; it keeps the frames untouched.
To reverse a video with sound, use reverse video instead.
A single-frame GIF cannot be reversed: there is nothing to play backwards.
