Video Splitter – Split a Video into Parts

Split video files into equal parts, into pieces of a set length, or at markers you place yourself. This video splitter copies the frames instead of re-encoding them, so a long recording becomes ten clean parts in seconds with no quality loss. It runs in your browser: the file is never uploaded, and every part downloads separately or as one ZIP.

How to split a video into parts

  1. Step 1: Drop one video on the box above.

  2. Step 2: Under Split, choose Every N seconds and type the part length, choose Equal parts and the number of pieces, or choose At markers and press S at each point on the timeline.

  3. Step 3: Leave Frame-accurate cuts off for an instant, lossless split. Switch it on only when every part must start on an exact frame.

  4. Step 4: Press Split and download the numbered parts one by one, or all of them with Download all.

How it runs

Hardware video engine
Video is decoded and encoded by your device’s media hardware through WebCodecs — usually several times faster than real time.
FFmpeg (when needed)
Older formats and a few filters use FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. It downloads once (about 31 MB) the first time it is needed and is cached for offline use.

Three ways to split a video

Pick the mode by what decides the cut: a time limit, a number of pieces, or the content itself. All three can run losslessly, and you can switch modes without reloading the file.

Split modes of the video splitter
ModeYou setBest forExample with a 10-minute video
Every N secondsThe length of each part (default 60 s)Stories, Status updates, Reels and other apps with a length cap30 s → 20 parts
Equal parts2 to 100 partsHalves for sharing, even chunks for review or upload2 parts → two 5-minute halves
At markersSplit points on the timelineChapters, scenes, separate songs or questionsMarkers at 2:10 and 7:45 → 3 parts
The last part of an “every N seconds” split is whatever is left over, so it is usually shorter. One video can be split into at most 500 parts.

How many parts will I get?

Divide the length of the video by the part length and round up. The splitter never makes a sliver of less than a third of a second at the end; that bit joins the last part instead.

15 s4015 s
30 s2030 s
60 s (default)1060 s
90 s760 s
180 s (Reels and Shorts maximum)460 s
Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts allow up to 180 and 180 seconds. For Stories and WhatsApp Status, type the length your app currently allows; those limits change, so check the app first.

Can you split a video without losing quality?

Yes, with Frame-accurate cuts switched off (the default). Each part is copied straight out of the original file, frame for frame, and nothing is decoded or compressed again. That is also why splitting is fast: a long file takes about as long as copying it. Older formats such as AVI or WMV are the exception: they are converted to H.264 once, then split without further loss.

MP4 and MOV parts start and end exactly where you asked, because the copy keeps a hidden lead-in that players skip. MKV and WebM parts start at the nearest earlier keyframe, so neighbouring parts can overlap by a moment. Turn on Frame-accurate cuts if every part must begin on its exact frame: each part is then re-encoded at a high quality setting, which takes longer.

Split a video on iPhone, Android, Windows or Mac

Most built-in editors can trim one clip but cannot save one video as several separate files. This splitter works the same in every modern browser.

iPhone and iPad

The Photos app only trims. Open this page in Safari, pick the video from Photo Library and save the parts to Files; from there you can share them to Photos or straight into an app.

Android

Gallery editors usually trim a single clip. Open this page in Chrome, choose a part length or a number of parts and the files land in Downloads, ready to post in order.

Windows

Clipchamp can split clips on its timeline, but it exports one video. Drag a large MP4 from File Explorer into Chrome or Edge here to get separate files without re-encoding.

Mac

QuickTime’s Split Clip divides a movie on its own timeline and still saves one file. Drop the video into Safari or Chrome here to get numbered parts.

Tips & troubleshooting

  • Only need one piece? Use the video trimmer instead: it keeps a single range and skips the extra files.

  • To remove a section from the middle, place markers on both sides of it, split, delete the middle part and join the rest with Merge Videos.

  • There is no split-by-megabytes mode. If each part must fit an upload limit, split by time first, then shrink the parts with the video compressor.

  • Splitting a landscape video for Stories? Convert it with the horizontal to vertical video converter first, so every part is already 9:16.

  • Want stills rather than clips? Extract frames from a video as JPG or PNG images.

Video Splitter FAQ

How do I split a video in half?

Choose Equal parts and leave the number at 2, then press Split. A 7-minute video becomes two 3:30 halves. With Frame-accurate cuts off, both halves are copied without re-encoding.

How do I split a long video for WhatsApp Status or Instagram Stories?

Choose Every N seconds and type the maximum length the app shows for one Status or Story, then post the numbered parts in order. The limits change from time to time, so check the app before you split.

Why do my parts overlap or start a little early?

MKV and WebM parts start on the nearest earlier keyframe when Frame-accurate cuts are off, so a part can begin a moment before the previous one ends. MP4 and MOV parts are exact. Switch on Frame-accurate cuts for exact parts in every format.

How do I split a large MP4 file?

Drop it here on a computer. The file is read from your disk in chunks rather than uploaded, so multi-gigabyte recordings split in about the time it takes to copy them. Phones can split large files too, but they have less memory.

What is the difference between splitting and trimming a video?

Splitting cuts one video into several files and keeps every second. Trimming keeps one range and discards the rest. Use the video trimmer for the second job.

Is your video uploaded anywhere?

No. Your video is processed by your own browser on your own device. There is no server that receives files, so nothing is uploaded, stored or shared. You can even switch to airplane mode once the page has loaded.
