Video to JPG – Extract Frames as JPG, PNG or WebP
Convert video to JPG images at full resolution: one frame every N seconds, a set number of evenly spaced frames, or every single frame of a range. You can also save PNG or WebP. Up to 48 images download individually; larger sets come as one ZIP with a contact sheet to browse them. Frames are decoded on your device, so the video is never uploaded.

Settings explained
- Number of frames
- Evenly spaced across the video (or the range you picked).
Formats
Batch-friendly: add many files and they are processed one after another — if one fails, the rest still finish.
How it runs
- Hardware video engine
- Video is decoded and encoded by your device’s media hardware through WebCodecs — usually several times faster than real time.
- GPU canvas
- Pixels are drawn and composited with the GPU-accelerated canvas.
How many images will I get?
A video holds frame rate × duration frames: a one-minute clip at 30 fps has 1,800. The table shows how many stills each setting gives from that clip, which also decides how long the export takes and how much space it needs.
| Setting | Images | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Every 5 seconds | 12 | A quick storyboard or chapter thumbnails |
| Every 1 second (default) | 60 | Picking a thumbnail, contact sheets, notes from a lecture |
| Every 0.1 seconds | About 600 | Motion studies, sports technique |
| Fixed number: 10 | 10 | An evenly spaced overview of any length of video |
| Every frame | 1,800 | Frame-by-frame analysis, datasets, rotoscoping |
What is a JPG file?
A JPG file (or JPEG) is a compressed photo format that every phone, computer, browser and document editor opens. It keeps files small by discarding fine detail the eye barely notices, which suits stills from video well. PNG stores every pixel without loss, at several times the size, and is the right choice when you will edit or analyse the frames. WebP is smaller than JPG at similar quality and works in browsers and most modern apps.
| Format | Size per image | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| JPG at 90% (default) | About 0.5 MB | Opens everywhere |
| WebP at 90% | About 0.4 MB | Smallest; for web use |
| PNG | About 3 MB | Lossless; for editing and datasets |
Extract frames from a video in high quality
Frames are taken straight from the decoded video at its own resolution, so a 4K video gives 3840×2160 stills, with no screen capture in between and no 1920-pixel cap. For the best quality pick PNG, or JPG at 95–100%, and keep Width on Original under Advanced settings. Smaller widths (1920, 1280 or 640 pixels) save space, and a frame is never enlarged beyond its source.
Each file is named after the video with a running number and the timestamp, for example holiday-0001-00m01.50s.jpg, so the order and the moment are always clear.
Convert video to JPG on iPhone, Android or a computer
Phones can save single frames as screenshots, but not a whole series at full resolution. Open this page in Safari or Chrome, pick the clip and choose an interval; save the images to Photos or Files, or unzip the archive on a computer. Every-frame exports of long or 4K videos need a lot of memory, so they are best done on a laptop or desktop.
Tips & troubleshooting
Need just one perfect frame? The screenshot from video tool lets you step frame by frame and save a single full-resolution still.
Turning frames into an animation? Make a GIF directly with Video to GIF, which keeps the timing.
Collecting frames for a report? Combine the JPGs into one document with Images to PDF.
Working with an animated GIF rather than a video? GIF to PNG splits it into frames.
Video to JPG (Frame Extractor) FAQ
How do I extract all frames from a video?
Choose Every frame under Extract and press Extract. Every decoded frame in the range becomes an image; above 600 you are asked to confirm, and the set arrives as a ZIP with a contact sheet. Use the timeline handles to limit the range.
What frame rate should I extract at?
One frame per second is plenty for thumbnails and notes. Use 5 to 10 per second (an interval of 0.2 or 0.1 s) for motion studies, and every frame only for frame-by-frame work, since a minute of 30 fps video is already 1,800 images.
Can you get high-quality stills from a video?
Yes, as good as the video itself: each still is a full-resolution decoded frame. Fast motion in the video still shows as blur in the still, because that blur is recorded in the frame.
Can I convert video to PNG instead of JPG?
Yes. Set Image format to PNG for lossless frames. They are several times larger than JPGs, so use a longer interval or a shorter range for long videos.
Is your video uploaded anywhere?
No. Your video is processed by your own browser on your own device. There is no server that receives files, so nothing is uploaded, stored or shared. You can even switch to airplane mode once the page has loaded.
