Compress Video for Email (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo)
Compress video for email so it goes out as a real attachment, not a cloud link. Pick your provider and ProMedia shrinks the clip just under its cap: 25 MB for Gmail and Yahoo, 20 MB for Outlook and iCloud Mail, or 10 MB for strict company servers. Compression runs in your browser, so the video is never uploaded before you send it.

Settings explained
- Email service
- Attachments grow by about a third when emailed, but these limits already account for it — the file size shown on your device is what counts.
- Reduce size by
- 50% turns a 100 MB video into about 50 MB.
- Quality
- Faster: Smaller file, quickest export
- Balanced: Good quality at a sensible size
- Best quality: Largest file, slowest export
- Max resolution
- Automatic steps the resolution down only when the bitrate would get too low — a smaller sharp picture beats a big blocky one.
- Video codec
- H.264 plays everywhere. HEVC and AV1 give smaller files at the same quality but need newer devices.
- H.264 (AVC): Plays everywhere
- H.265 (HEVC): About 35% smaller, newer devices
- VP9: Web / WebM
- AV1: Smallest files, slowest to encode
Formats
Batch-friendly: add many files and they are processed one after another — if one fails, the rest still finish.
How it runs
- Hardware video engine
- Video is decoded and encoded by your device’s media hardware through WebCodecs — usually several times faster than real time.
- FFmpeg (when needed)
- Older formats and a few filters use FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. It downloads once (about 31 MB) the first time it is needed and is cached for offline use.

Email attachment limits and how long a video fits
Each provider caps the total size of one message, and the video has to fit inside that cap. The longer the clip, the lower the resolution that still looks clean at that size, so this table pairs every limit with the longest clip that keeps 1080p, 720p and 480p.
| Email service | Limit per message | 1080p | 720p | 480p |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gmail | 25 MB | 1 min 24 s | 3 min 13 s | 6 min 27 s |
| Yahoo Mail | 25 MB | 1 min 24 s | 3 min 13 s | 6 min 27 s |
| Outlook.com | 20 MB | 1 min 07 s | 2 min 34 s | 5 min 10 s |
| iCloud Mail | 20 MB | 1 min 07 s | 2 min 34 s | 5 min 10 s |
| Strict company servers | 10 MB | 33 s | 1 min 17 s | 2 min 35 s |
What is the Gmail attachment size limit?
Personal Gmail accounts can send 25 MB of attachments per email. When you attach something bigger, Gmail removes the attachment and inserts a Google Drive link instead (Google’s help page). Work and school accounts follow whatever their administrator set.
To compress video for Gmail and keep it a true attachment, choose the Gmail / Yahoo option above; the file lands just under 25 MB.
How to email a large video from iPhone or Android
iPhone
Open this page in Safari, tap the drop zone and choose Photo Library. Save the compressed MP4 to Files, then attach it in Mail or Gmail. Apple Mail may offer Mail Drop for oversized files, which sends an iCloud link rather than an attachment.
Android and Samsung
In Chrome, tap the drop zone and pick the clip from your gallery. The MP4 is saved to Downloads; attach it in Gmail or Outlook with the paperclip button.
Mac and Windows
Drag the video into Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox here, then drag the result into your email draft. Encoding runs on the graphics chip where the browser allows.
Why attach the video instead of sending a link?
- It arrives with the message. The recipient can save or play it straight from the inbox, with no sharing permissions to request.
- It does not expire. A cloud link stops working when the file is moved or the share is switched off; an attachment stays in the thread.
- It stays between you and the recipient. Compressing here happens on your device, so the only copy that leaves it is the one you email.
Tips & troubleshooting
Attaching photos or a PDF as well? Choose a lower target so the whole email fits; the limit counts every attachment together.
Long recording? Cut it to the part that matters with the video trimmer before compressing, and it will look much sharper.
Silent screen capture? Use remove audio from video first, or choose Remove audio under Advanced settings, to free bits for the picture.
Need a size the presets do not offer? The video compressor takes any number of MB.
Compress Video for Email FAQ
How do I email a large video?
Compress it under your provider’s limit first: 25 MB for Gmail and Yahoo, 20 MB for Outlook and iCloud. Pick the service above, press Compress and attach the MP4. If the clip is very long, trim it first so it stays sharp at that size.
What is the Gmail attachment size limit?
25 MB per email for personal accounts, counting all attachments together. Anything larger is turned into a Google Drive link automatically.
Does Gmail compress videos?
No. Gmail sends attachments as they are; it does not shrink them. A video over the limit is replaced by a Google Drive link instead, so compress it here if you want it to arrive as an attachment.
How do I email a large video file in Outlook?
Choose the Outlook / iCloud option above, which compresses the video just under 20 MB, then attach the MP4 in Outlook. Company mail servers can be stricter; pick the 10 MB option, or ask your IT team for the exact limit.
How do I compress a video for email without losing quality?
Shorter is sharper: trim the clip, then compress. Keep the default H.264 codec so it plays in every mail app, and use the highest target your provider allows. The result card shows the final size so you know it fits before you attach it.
How do I compress a video for email on Mac?
Open this page in Safari or Chrome, drag the video in from Finder or Photos and press Compress. Attach the MP4 in Mail or your webmail. Nothing is uploaded to compress it.
Is your video uploaded anywhere?
No. Your video is processed by your own browser on your own device. There is no server that receives files, so nothing is uploaded, stored or shared. You can even switch to airplane mode once the page has loaded.
