Compress Image to 20KB

Compress image to 20KB for signature uploads and strict exam portals. Drop a photo or a scanned signature and get a JPG that is guaranteed to be under 20 KB, at the highest quality that fits; add the exact pixel size if the form names one. It runs in your browser, so your ID photo and signature are never uploaded.

Settings explained

Output format
WebP and AVIF are typically 25–50% smaller than JPG at the same quality.
Pixel size
Some forms also ask for exact pixels (e.g. 200 × 230).
Keep metadata (EXIF)
Off removes camera details, dates and GPS location — safer when sharing. On keeps them.

Batch-friendly: add many files and they are processed one after another — if one fails, the rest still finish.

How it runs

WebAssembly codecs
Images are encoded with Squoosh-grade codecs (MozJPEG, WebP, AVIF, OxiPNG, JPEG XL). Each codec loads only when you use it.
GPU canvas
Pixels are drawn and composited with the GPU-accelerated canvas.

What a 20 KB photo looks like

Twenty kilobytes is tight for a full photo, so the tool keeps quality reasonable and lowers the resolution until the file fits. Forms that also fix a small pixel size are easier: at 200 × 230 pixels a photo fits comfortably at high quality. These are real results from this page.

Which forms ask for 20 KB?

Mostly signature fields and the strictest photo fields. A common pattern on exam, recruitment and government portals is 10–20 KB for a signature and 20–50 KB for a photograph, often with a fixed pixel size as well.

Whether a notice says “reduce image size to 20 KB” or “resize image to 20 KB”, it means the same thing: the file must be smaller than 20 KB. Read the notice for your form: if it says the signature must be between 10 and 20 KB, the minimum matters too, and the signature resizer keeps the file inside that window.

How to resize your signature to 20KB

Sign with a dark pen on plain white paper, photograph or scan it in good light, and crop tightly around the signature. Drop the image here, set the pixel size if the form gives one, and press Compress. Clean, high-contrast scans compress very well: most of the image is plain white, so 20 KB leaves room for high quality. A grey, shadowed photo of a signature wastes bytes on paper texture.

  • Crop away the table, your hand and the edges of the paper first with crop image.
  • Keep the background white; a tinted background makes the file bigger and can fail checks.
  • If the result looks faint, scan again with more light rather than lowering the size.

Will 20KB make my photo blurry?

Not if the pixel size is sensible. A 20 KB JPG at a few hundred pixels wide looks clean on a form, which only displays photos small. Problems come from trying to keep a full-resolution photo under 20 KB: the tool avoids that by reducing pixels before quality drops too far, so you get a smaller but clean picture rather than a blocky big one. If the form gives exact dimensions, enter them; small fixed sizes give the best quality at 20 KB.

Reduce a photo to 20KB on iPhone or Android

You can do this on the phone you will submit the form from.

Android

Open this page in Chrome, tap the box and choose the photo from Gallery or take a new one. The 20 KB JPG goes to Downloads, where the form’s upload button finds it.

iPhone

Open this page in Safari, tap the box and pick the photo. HEIC photos are turned into JPG automatically. Save the result to Files before uploading.

Why use this 20 KB compressor

  • Always under 20 KB, with a small margin so both 1,000- and 1,024-byte kilobytes pass.
  • Identity documents stay private: the photo is processed on your device, not on a server.
  • Exact pixel sizes for forms that ask for them, cropped from the centre without stretching.
  • Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Tips & troubleshooting

Compress Image to 20 KB FAQ

How do I compress an image to 20KB?

Add the photo or signature, set the exact pixel size if the form asks for one, and press Compress. The result is a JPG under 20 KB at the highest quality that fits.

How do I resize a photo to 20KB on my phone?

Open this page in Chrome or Safari on the phone, tap the box, pick the photo and press Compress. The JPG is saved to your downloads; no app is needed.

How do I resize my signature to 20KB?

Scan or photograph it on white paper in good light, crop tightly, then compress it here. If the form needs a range such as 10–20 KB, use the signature resizer.

Can I keep a photo between 20KB and 50KB?

This page only guarantees the upper limit of 20 KB. For a photo that must be between 20 and 50 KB, use compress image to 50KB; a normal photo will land close to 50 KB.

Will 20KB make my photo blurry?

At form sizes, no. The tool lowers the pixel size before the quality gets poor, so the photo stays clean. Setting the exact dimensions the form asks for gives the best result.
