Meme Generator
This meme generator puts the classic meme caption on your own picture: big white capitals with a black outline, at the top, the bottom or both. Add a photo or screenshot, type the two lines and download a JPG or PNG with no watermark. Long captions wrap and shrink to fit by themselves, and the image is captioned in your browser, never uploaded.

Which caption style do you need?
The top-and-bottom format is what most people mean by a meme, and it is what this page makes. Other caption styles have their own tools, so you can stay with the one that matches the joke.
| Style | Looks like | Make it with |
|---|---|---|
| Classic meme | Outlined capitals at the top and bottom of the picture | This meme maker |
| Text anywhere | A title or caption placed freely, in any of five fonts | Add text to image |
| Animated meme | Caption over a looping GIF | Add text to GIF |
| Video meme | Caption over a clip with sound | Add text to video |
| Side-by-side comparison | Two pictures next to each other | Combine images, then caption it here |
How to make a meme from your own photo
Any picture works: a photo from your camera roll, a screenshot, a frame grabbed from a video, a drawing. Drop it in, type the setup in Top text and the punchline in Bottom text, and press Create. The text is centred, kept a small margin from the edges, and set in capitals unless you switch ALL CAPS off.
If a caption is too long for one line, it wraps onto up to three lines and the letters shrink until it fits the width, so nothing runs off the side. Short captions are still funnier: if the text needs three lines, it is usually worth cutting.
What font do memes use?
Classic memes use Impact, a heavy, condensed typeface designed in 1965 and bundled with Windows, and it became the standard on early meme sites. Impact is not installed on most phones, so this meme creator ships Anton, a free, openly licensed font with the same tall, narrow, heavy shape. It renders identically on every device, and if it ever fails to load, Impact is used where available.
The outline stroke is 14% of the font size, with rounded corners, which keeps white letters readable even over a white sky or a bright wall.
| Text size | Font size | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 6% | 65 px | Long captions, small print jokes |
| 10% (default) | 108 px | Most memes: two short lines |
| 15% | 162 px | One or two punchy words |
| 20% | 216 px | A single word that is the whole joke |
How long can a meme caption be?
Each box takes up to 120 characters. The caption first wraps onto a second and third line, and only if three lines are still too wide do the letters get smaller, step by step, until the text fits inside the margins. That keeps short captions big and bold and stops long ones from spilling off the picture. As a rule of thumb, a top line under about six words and a bottom line under about eight read at a glance on a phone.
How to make a meme on iPhone or Android
Open this page in Safari or Chrome, tap the drop zone and pick the photo or screenshot from your gallery. Type the captions with the phone keyboard, press Create, and the meme is saved to your Downloads, ready to post or send. There is no app to install and no account to create, and it works the same on a computer.
Is there a meme maker without a watermark?
This one. Some free meme apps add their logo in a corner unless you pay; here the only text on the result is yours. The meme is made by your browser, so there is no server-side export step where a watermark could be added, and no sign-up wall in front of the download.
- JPG or PNG. JPG is smaller for photos; PNG keeps flat screenshots and drawings crisp.
- Any colour. White is classic, but yellow or black text works when the picture calls for it.
- Private. Screenshots of chats or photos of friends stay on your device while you caption them.
How to make a GIF meme
This page captions still images: a GIF dropped here is saved as a still picture. To keep the animation, use add text to GIF, which writes your caption on every frame. To turn a video clip into a GIF first, the video to GIF converter cuts and converts it, and you can caption the result afterwards.
Why there are no meme templates here
The famous template images are photos, film stills and artwork that belong to someone else, so ProMedia does not ship a gallery of them. Bring your own picture instead: a photo you took, a screenshot or an image you have the right to use. A blank template you already have on your phone works exactly like any other picture.
Tips & troubleshooting
Crop the picture to the part that matters with the image cropper first; tighter framing makes the reaction clearer.
Square or 4:5 pictures leave more room for two lines of text than wide 16:9 frames.
Turn off ALL CAPS for a calmer, modern caption style.
For the caption-bar style, give the picture white bars above and below with Fit (pad) and a taller height in the image resizer, then write in the top bar with add text to image in black.
Meme Generator FAQ
How do I make a meme from my own photo?
Drop the photo here, type the top and bottom text, and press Create. The captions are added in the classic outlined style and you download a JPG or PNG.
What font do memes use?
The classic meme font is Impact. Because most phones do not have Impact, this meme generator uses Anton, a free font with the same heavy, condensed look, so the result is identical on every device.
How do I make a meme on iPhone or Android?
Open this page in your phone’s browser, pick the picture from your gallery, type the captions and press Create. The meme saves to your Downloads.
Is there a meme maker without a watermark?
Yes, this one. It adds nothing but your own captions, needs no account, and the image never leaves your device.
How do I make a GIF meme?
Use add text to GIF, which captions every frame so the animation keeps playing. This page saves GIFs as still images.
Can I put text only at the top or only at the bottom?
Yes. Leave the other box empty and only one caption is added, in the same outlined style. A single bottom caption is the usual choice for reaction images where the picture itself is the setup.
Is your picture uploaded anywhere?
No. Your picture is processed by your own browser on your own device. There is no server that receives files, so nothing is uploaded, stored or shared. You can even switch to airplane mode once the page has loaded.
