MOV to MP3 Converter

Convert MOV to MP3 and keep only the sound of iPhone videos, QuickTime recordings and Mac screen recordings: a song from a concert clip, a lecture, a voice note filmed on video. ProMedia decodes the audio track and saves an MP3 at up to 320 kbps, in batches, on your own device. HEVC iPhone clips work too, because the video is never decoded.

How to convert MOV to MP3

  1. Step 1: Add the MOV videos: drag them onto the box above, or on an iPhone tap it and pick the clips from Photo Library.

  2. Step 2: Pick a Bitrate: 192 kbps for music, 128 kbps for speech, 320 kbps for the largest, highest-quality file.

  3. Step 3: Press Convert. Only the audio track is read; the picture is skipped.

  4. Step 4: Download the MP3 files, or all of them as a ZIP.

How it runs

Hardware video engine
Video is decoded and encoded by your device’s media hardware through WebCodecs — usually several times faster than real time.
FFmpeg (when needed)
Older formats and a few filters use FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. It downloads once (about 31 MB) the first time it is needed and is cached for offline use.

Which MP3 bitrate to choose for MOV audio

Pick the bitrate by what the recording holds, not by habit. Speech sounds clean at 128 kbps, music at 192 kbps, and 320 kbps only helps when the source audio itself was high quality. Higher bitrates cannot add detail the MOV never had; they only make the file bigger.

MP3 bitrate, size and use
BitrateSize per minuteGood for
128 kbps0.96 MBLectures, interviews, voice memos
192 kbps (default)1.44 MBMusic and concert clips; the safe all-rounder
256 kbps1.92 MBMusic you will listen to closely
320 kbps2.40 MBThe MP3 maximum, for high-quality sources
Sizes are exact for constant-bitrate MP3, in decimal megabytes.

What is a MOV file?

A MOV file is Apple’s QuickTime movie format, and it is what iPhones, iPads and Macs save videos and screen recordings as. The sound inside is almost always AAC, a compressed audio codec. Players on Windows and Android often refuse MOV, and music players never accept video, which is why turning the sound into an MP3 is the common fix.

Does converting MOV to MP3 lose quality?

A little, because AAC audio is decoded and compressed again as MP3, two lossy formats in a row. At 192 kbps or more the difference is very hard to hear on phone and camera recordings. If you need an untouched copy of the sound, save it as M4A with extract audio from video, which copies the AAC track bit for bit, or as uncompressed WAV with MP4 to WAV, which accepts MOV files too.

Can I get audio from a screen recording?

Yes, if sound was recorded. Mac screen recordings made with the built-in Screenshot toolbar usually contain sound only when a microphone was chosen under Options before recording. iPhone screen recordings capture app sound, plus your voice if the microphone was switched on. A recording without any audio track stops with a clear message instead of producing a silent MP3.

Convert MOV to MP3 on Mac or iPhone

Most MOV files start life on Apple devices, so here is what works best on each.

Mac

QuickTime Player can save File → Export As → Audio Only, but that gives an M4A file, not MP3. For MP3, drag the MOVs from Finder or Photos into Safari or Chrome here and convert them in one batch.

iPhone and iPad

Open this page in Safari, tap the drop zone and choose Photo Library. Save the MP3s to Files; from there you can AirDrop them to a Mac or share them to any app.

Windows and Android

Got MOV files from someone with an iPhone? Drop them into Chrome or Edge on this page. The MP3s save to Downloads and play in any music app.

Tips & troubleshooting

  • Need the video as well, just in a friendlier format? MOV to MP4 keeps the picture and copies it losslessly.

  • Only want a section of the recording? Convert first, then trim the MP3 with the MP3 cutter.

  • Turning a lecture into notes? Video to text transcribes the MOV itself, on your device.

  • Very quiet recording? Normalize audio brings the MP3 up to a consistent loudness.

MOV to MP3 Converter FAQ

How do I convert MOV to MP3 on Mac?

Open this page in Safari or Chrome, drag the MOV files in from Finder or Photos and press Convert. The MP3s are saved to Downloads. QuickTime’s own Audio Only export makes M4A files, so this is the quicker route to MP3.

How do I convert an iPhone video to MP3?

Open this page in Safari on the iPhone, tap the drop zone, choose Photo Library and select the video. Press Convert and save the MP3 to Files. The video stays on the phone; nothing is uploaded.

Does converting MOV to MP3 lose quality?

Slightly, since AAC is re-encoded as MP3. At 192 kbps or above it is very hard to hear. For a bit-for-bit copy of the sound, save it as M4A instead with the extract audio tool, which copies the AAC track.

Can I convert several MOV files at once?

Yes. Drop as many as you like; they are converted one after another, each MP3 named after its video, and you can download them all as one ZIP.

Why is there no sound in my MP3?

The MOV probably had no audio track or a silent one, which is common for screen recordings made without a microphone. ProMedia stops with a message when a file has no audio track at all.

Is your video uploaded anywhere?

No. Your video is processed by your own browser on your own device. There is no server that receives files, so nothing is uploaded, stored or shared. You can even switch to airplane mode once the page has loaded.
