Opus to MP3 Converter (WhatsApp & Telegram Voice Notes)
Convert Opus to MP3 so WhatsApp and Telegram voice notes play anywhere: in a car, in an email, in an editor or on an old phone. WhatsApp voice notes are Opus audio in .opus or .ogg files; drop them here and get standard MP3s back. They are converted in your own browser, so private conversations are never uploaded to a server.

Settings explained
- Bitrate
- 128 kbps is fine for speech, 192 kbps for music, 320 kbps is the MP3 maximum.
- OGG codec
- Godot, Unity and older players need Vorbis. Vorbis uses the FFmpeg engine (≈31 MB, downloaded once).
- Opus: Smaller
- Vorbis: Games, older players
Formats
Batch-friendly: add many files and they are processed one after another — if one fails, the rest still finish.
How it runs
- Hardware video engine
- Video is decoded and encoded by your device’s media hardware through WebCodecs — usually several times faster than real time.
- FFmpeg (when needed)
- Older formats and a few filters use FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. It downloads once (about 31 MB) the first time it is needed and is cached for offline use.
Is Opus better than MP3?
For speech at small sizes, yes: Opus was designed for voice and real-time chat and stays clear at bitrates where MP3 sounds muffled, which is why messaging apps use it. MP3 wins on compatibility. Many car stereos, older phones, email recipients and web forms cannot play .opus, so a converted MP3 is simply the version everyone can open.
| Opus (.opus, .ogg) | MP3 | |
|---|---|---|
| Made for | Voice calls and messages, streaming | Music and general audio |
| Used by | WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, browsers | Almost every player and app |
| Sound of speech at low bitrates | Clear | Thinner, more artefacts |
| Opens on iPhone Music, car stereos, Windows apps | Often not | Yes |
What is an .opus file and how do I open it?
An .opus file is audio compressed with the Opus codec, an open, royalty-free standard from the IETF (RFC 6716), inside an Ogg container. WhatsApp on Android stores voice notes as .opus files named like PTT-20250101-WA0001.opus; Telegram uses the same codec in .ogg files.
Chrome, Firefox and VLC open them directly. When a phone, a car or a program refuses, convert to MP3 here. Opus always decodes at 48 kHz, so the MP3 is a 48 kHz file.
Get voice notes out of WhatsApp and Telegram
WhatsApp on iPhone
Touch and hold the voice message, tap Forward, then the share icon, and choose Save to Files. Then pick it from Files on this page in Safari.
WhatsApp on Android
Touch and hold the voice message and tap Share to save it to Files, or find it in your file manager under Android › media › com.whatsapp › WhatsApp › Media › WhatsApp Voice Notes.
Telegram
On a computer, right-click the voice message and choose Save As. On a phone, use the message menu to share or save the file, then select it here.
Is it safe to convert private voice notes online?
It depends on where the conversion happens. Upload-based converters receive a copy of every voice note you give them. Here, the file is decoded and encoded by your browser on your own device, and no server ever receives it. You can turn on airplane mode after the page loads and it still works, which is the easiest way to check.
Tips & troubleshooting
Want the message as text instead of audio? WhatsApp audio to text transcribes voice notes on your device.
Hard to hear? Make the MP3 louder with the volume booster, or clean up background noise with the noise reducer.
Voice note recorded too fast? Slow it down without changing the voice with the audio speed changer.
OPUS to MP3 (WhatsApp Audio) FAQ
How do I convert a WhatsApp audio to MP3?
Save the voice note from WhatsApp to your phone’s files, open this page, tap the drop zone, pick the .opus or .ogg file and press Convert. The MP3 is saved to Downloads.
Can I convert WhatsApp voice notes to MP3 on iPhone?
Yes. In WhatsApp, forward the voice message to the share sheet and choose Save to Files, then open this page in Safari, pick the file and press Convert. No app or computer is needed.
How do I convert Telegram voice messages to MP3?
Save the voice message as a file (Save As on desktop, or share it to Files on a phone), then drop the .ogg file here. Telegram voice messages are Opus audio, which converts like a WhatsApp note.
Which bitrate should I use for voice notes?
128 kbps, the default, is more than enough for speech; 64 kbps halves the size and still sounds clear. Higher bitrates only make the file bigger, because the voice note was small to begin with.
