OGG to MP3 Converter
Convert OGG to MP3 so game sounds, Linux recordings, browser downloads and voice messages play on any device. Whether your .ogg or .oga file holds Vorbis or Opus audio, ProMedia detects it and writes a standard MP3 at the bitrate you choose. Convert a whole batch at once; the files are processed on your device and never uploaded.

Settings explained
- Bitrate
- 128 kbps is fine for speech, 192 kbps for music, 320 kbps is the MP3 maximum.
- OGG codec
- Godot, Unity and older players need Vorbis. Vorbis uses the FFmpeg engine (≈31 MB, downloaded once).
- Opus: Smaller
- Vorbis: Games, older players
Formats
Batch-friendly: add many files and they are processed one after another — if one fails, the rest still finish.
How it runs
- Hardware video engine
- Video is decoded and encoded by your device’s media hardware through WebCodecs — usually several times faster than real time.
- FFmpeg (when needed)
- Older formats and a few filters use FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. It downloads once (about 31 MB) the first time it is needed and is cached for offline use.
Is OGG better than MP3?
On quality per megabyte, usually yes: both codecs found in OGG files, Vorbis and the newer Opus, sound better than MP3 at the same bitrate, especially at 128 kbps and below. On compatibility, no: car stereos, Apple’s Music and QuickTime apps, many Windows programs and upload forms play MP3 but not OGG. Convert when the player, not the sound, is the problem.
| OGG Vorbis | OGG Opus | MP3 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| First stable release | 2002 (Xiph.Org) | 2012 (IETF standard) | 1993 (MPEG) |
| Quality at 96–128 kbps | Good | Very good, best for voice | Fair |
| Typical source | Games, Linux apps, older Android sounds | Voice messages, web audio, Discord | Music downloads, podcasts |
| Licence | Royalty-free | Royalty-free | Patents expired in 2017 |

What is an OGG file?
An OGG file is an Ogg container, an open, patent-free format from the Xiph.Org Foundation, that usually carries Vorbis or Opus audio. The .oga extension marks an audio-only Ogg file and is converted exactly the same way. Because it costs nothing to use, OGG is common in video games, open-source software, Wikipedia audio and voice-message apps.
Most people meet it when a downloaded sound, a game file or a voice note will not open on an iPhone, a Mac or a car stereo. MP3 fixes that.
Can you convert OGG to MP3 without losing quality?
Not perfectly: OGG Vorbis and Opus are lossy, and so is MP3, so a second encode adds a small loss. Keep it inaudible by choosing an MP3 bitrate a step above the OGG’s. A 128 kbps Vorbis track converts well at 192 kbps; a 64 kbps Opus voice message is fine at 128 kbps.
| Your OGG file | Suggested MP3 bitrate | Sample rate of the MP3 |
|---|---|---|
| Music in Vorbis, 128–192 kbps | 192–256 kbps | Same as the source (usually 44.1 kHz) |
| Game sound effects in Vorbis | 128–192 kbps | Same as the source |
| Voice message in Opus | 128 kbps (64 kbps is enough for speech) | 48 kHz, the rate Opus always decodes at |
| Podcast or audiobook in Opus | 96–128 kbps | 48 kHz |
Is my .ogg file Vorbis or Opus?
You do not need to know: the converter reads the codec from inside the file and decodes either. If you are curious, media info shows the codec, sample rate and bitrate of any .ogg file. As a rule of thumb, game and Linux files are mostly Vorbis, while voice messages and web recordings are mostly Opus.
Convert OGG to MP3 on Mac, iPhone, Windows or Android
Mac
QuickTime Player and the Music app do not open OGG files. Drag them from Finder into Safari or Chrome here, and the MP3s play everywhere on macOS.
iPhone
In Safari, tap the drop zone, choose the .ogg file from Files and press Convert. The MP3 lands in Downloads in Files.
Windows
Recent Windows versions play many OGG files, but other apps, editors and devices may not. Drag the files from File Explorer here to convert a batch.
Android
Android plays OGG natively; convert only when you need to send the file to an iPhone, a car stereo or a web form that wants MP3.
Tips & troubleshooting
WhatsApp or Telegram voice notes? The WhatsApp audio to MP3 page is tuned for them, with a 128 kbps default.
Need the OGG as WAV for an editor instead? Use OGG to WAV and skip a lossy step.
Going the other way for a game engine? MP3 to OGG writes OGG Vorbis by default.
Many short sound effects at once? Drop the whole folder and use Download all for a single ZIP.
OGG to MP3 Converter FAQ
What is the difference between OGG and MP3?
OGG is an open container that usually holds Vorbis or Opus audio; MP3 is an older codec and format of its own. OGG’s codecs sound better at the same bitrate, while MP3 is supported by far more devices and apps.
Can I convert OGG to MP3 without losing quality?
Not entirely, because both are lossy and the audio is re-encoded. Choosing an MP3 bitrate one step above the OGG’s keeps the extra loss inaudible for normal listening.
How do I convert OGG to MP3 on a Mac?
Open this page in Safari or Chrome, drag the OGG files from Finder onto the drop zone and press Convert. macOS has no built-in OGG converter, and nothing needs to be installed here.
Can I convert WhatsApp .ogg voice notes?
Yes. WhatsApp voice notes are Opus audio, sometimes saved as .ogg and sometimes as .opus. Both work here, and the dedicated Opus to MP3 page has tips for exporting them from the app.
Is an OGG converter safe for my files?
This one never uploads them. The OGG is decoded and the MP3 encoded inside your browser, so game assets, recordings and voice messages stay on your device.
