Timelapse Video Maker – Speed Up Long Videos 2× to 32×
This timelapse video maker turns a long recording into a short, fast clip: sunsets, drawings, builds, drives or a day at the desk. Choose 2× to 32× and ProMedia keeps every Nth frame, so an hour at 30× becomes a two-minute video that still plays at a smooth 30 fps. The sound is muted by default. Nothing is uploaded, so long recordings stay on your device.

How to make a video into a timelapse
Step 1: Drop a long recording on the box above.
Step 2: Set Speed-up: divide the real length by the length you want. 60 minutes into 2 minutes is 30×.
Step 3: Leave Audio on Mute, or keep the sound sped up with or without its pitch.
Step 4: Press Apply and download the time-lapse.

Settings explained
- Speed-up
- An hour at 30× becomes two minutes.
- Audio
- Keep pitch: Natural voices
- Change pitch: Like a tape
- Mute
- Quality
- Only used when a stream has to be re-encoded. Compatible streams are copied with no quality loss.
- Faster: Smaller file, quickest export
- Balanced: Good quality at a sensible size
- Best quality: Largest file, slowest export
Formats
Batch-friendly: add many files and they are processed one after another — if one fails, the rest still finish.
How it runs
- Hardware video engine
- Video is decoded and encoded by your device’s media hardware through WebCodecs — usually several times faster than real time.
- FFmpeg (when needed)
- Older formats and a few filters use FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. It downloads once (about 31 MB) the first time it is needed and is cached for offline use.
How long will my time-lapse be?
Result length = recording length ÷ speed-up. Use the table to pick a factor, or work backwards from the length a platform allows.
| Recording | 8× | 16× | 30× | 32× (maximum) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 minutes (a sketch) | 1:15 | 0:38 | 0:20 | 0:19 |
| 30 minutes (a sunset) | 3:45 | 1:53 | 1:00 | 0:56 |
| 1 hour (a build or a drive) | 7:30 | 3:45 | 2:00 | 1:53 |
| 2 hours (an event set-up) | 15:00 | 7:30 | 4:00 | 3:45 |
How does a time-lapse video work?
A camera in time-lapse mode takes one frame every second or so and plays them back at normal speed. To convert video to timelapse after the fact, the process runs the other way round: of a 30 fps recording sped up 30×, one frame per second of real time is kept and the rest are dropped evenly. The result is re-encoded once at a steady frame rate, so motion stays smooth.
A hyperlapse is a time-lapse filmed while moving, such as a walk or a drive; it shows every bump, so steady the footage first.
Does a time-lapse have sound?
Usually not. Sound sped up 30× is a blur of noise, so Mute is the default. If the recording has speech or music worth keeping at a low factor such as 2× to 4×, choose Keep pitch. For most time-lapses, a music track added afterwards sounds better than the original audio.
Can you turn a time-lapse back to normal speed?
Not fully. The frames dropped while making the time-lapse are gone from that file, so slowing it down only stretches the frames that remain and the motion turns choppy. Keep the original recording if you may need real-time footage again; this tool never changes the file you dropped.
Tips & troubleshooting
Shaky walk or car mount? Run the clip through Stabilize Video before speeding it up; shake gets worse at 30×.
Put music under the finished clip with Add Music to Video.
Want a gentler fast motion video at 1.25× to 4× with natural sound? The video speed changer is made for that.
Posting to TikTok or Reels? Make the time-lapse vertical with the horizontal to vertical video converter.
Timelapse Video Maker FAQ
How do I make a timelapse video on my PC?
Open this page in Chrome, Edge or Firefox, drag the recording in, set the speed-up and press Apply. Hour-long recordings work on a computer because the file is read from disk in chunks.
Can you make a time-lapse from photos?
Not here. This time lapse maker speeds up a video. A photo series can be turned into a video with the slideshow maker, but at 1 to 10 seconds per photo it makes a slideshow, not a fast time-lapse.
How do I make a timelapse for TikTok?
Pick a speed-up that brings the recording down to the length you want, for example 30× for an hour into two minutes. Then convert it to 9:16 with the horizontal to vertical video converter if it was filmed in landscape.
Is your recording uploaded anywhere?
No. Your recording is processed by your own browser on your own device. There is no server that receives files, so nothing is uploaded, stored or shared. You can even switch to airplane mode once the page has loaded.
