PNG to PDF Converter

Convert PNG to PDF without losing a pixel: screenshots, diagrams, charts and transparent PNGs go into one PDF as lossless image data at full resolution, each page sized to its image. Drag the files into order, or switch to A4 or Letter pages for printing. Everything happens in your browser, so private screenshots are never uploaded.

Keep PNGs lossless
PNG pages keep their exact pixels at full resolution instead of becoming JPEG. Ideal for screenshots and diagrams; photos saved as PNG make a much bigger PDF.

Lossless PNG pages or JPEG pages?

With Keep PNGs lossless on (the default here), each PNG keeps its exact pixels, so text and lines stay razor-sharp. Switch it off when the PNGs are really photos: they then become JPEG pages, which are far smaller.

How the two settings store a PNG in the PDF
Keep PNGs lossless: onKeep PNGs lossless: off
PixelsIdentical to the PNGJPEG-compressed at Image quality (85%)
ResolutionFull size, never scaled downScaled to about 250 dpi on A4/Letter, 6,000 px on Fit pages
TransparencyKeptKept (transparent PNGs always stay PNG)
Size for screenshots and diagramsSmall: flat colours compress wellOften larger, with smudged edges around text
Size for photos saved as PNGLarge, can exceed the PNG itselfMuch smaller
In a test with two of our sample files, a 2.8 KB flat-colour PNG made a 3.5 KB lossless PDF but a 47 KB JPEG-page PDF; a 2 MB photo saved as PNG made a 3.7 MB lossless PDF and a 227 KB JPEG-page PDF (sizes as the result card shows them).

What is a PNG file?

A PNG file (Portable Network Graphics) is an image saved with lossless compression and optional transparency. Saving a PNG again never degrades it, unlike a JPG. That makes it the default for screenshots on Mac, iPhone and Windows, and for logos, charts and diagrams with sharp edges and flat colours.

A PDF is a document rather than an image, which is why upload forms, teachers and clients often ask for one. Converting PNG to PDF wraps the images in pages without changing what they look like.

Does PNG to PDF keep transparency?

Yes. A PNG’s alpha channel is stored in the PDF as a soft mask, so transparent areas stay transparent. PDF viewers show the white page behind them; if you place the page in Illustrator, InDesign or Affinity over a coloured background, the colour shows through. No black boxes appear around logos or rounded screenshots, which is a common problem with converters that turn every page into a JPEG, a format with no transparency at all.

How big each page will be

With Fit image, every page is exactly the size of its PNG at 96 pixels per inch, so the PDF looks right on screen at 100% zoom. Phone screenshots become tall, narrow pages.

Fit image page sizes for common screenshots
ScreenshotPixelsPage size
Full HD monitor1920×1080508 × 286 mm
13-inch MacBook Air2560×1664677 × 440 mm
iPhone 151179×2556312 × 676 mm
Typical Android phone1080×2400286 × 635 mm
Very long scrolling screenshots are shrunk to the 200-inch page limit PDF readers expect; the pixels inside are still kept in full.

For a document that will be printed or handed in, set Page size to A4 (210 × 297 mm) or Letter (8.5 × 11 in). Each PNG is centred on its page with Small (about 6 mm) or Large (about 13 mm) margins, and Auto orientation turns the page sideways for wide screenshots. Lossless embedding still applies: the full-resolution pixels sit inside the page, so diagrams stay sharp even when someone zooms in on the PDF.

How to convert a screenshot to PDF

Take the screenshots as usual: the Snipping Tool on Windows, Shift-Command-4 on a Mac and the button combination on an iPhone all save PNG files, as most Android phones do. Drop them here in one go to make one PDF from multiple PNG files, page by page. Name them in order (01.png, 02.png…) or drag the thumbnails to fix the sequence before creating the PDF.

Convert PNG to PDF on Windows, Mac or iPhone

Built-in options exist on every system; most re-compress or crop the images, which is what this page avoids.

Windows 10 and 11

Microsoft Print to PDF works from the Photos app’s Print dialog but fits images to a paper size. Use this page in Chrome or Edge for image-sized, lossless pages.

Mac

Preview can export a PNG as PDF, and Finder’s Quick Actions → Create PDF combines several. This page adds lossless embedding control and exact page order.

iPhone and iPad

In the Files app, select screenshots and tap Create PDF. In Safari, this page gives you page sizes, order and a size estimate first.

Tips & troubleshooting

  • Mixing JPG photos with PNG screenshots? Both go into the same PDF; photos are handled like on the JPG to PDF converter.

  • PDF too big because the PNGs are photos? Switch off Keep PNGs lossless, or convert them with PNG to JPG first.

  • Want the words in a screenshot to be searchable? Pull the text out with image to text.

  • iPhone photos are HEIC, not PNG; the HEIC to PDF page handles them.

  • Uploading to a portal with a size limit? Check the estimated size under the options before creating the PDF; if it is too big, switch off lossless and lower Image quality.

PNG to PDF Converter FAQ

How do I convert PNG to PDF on Windows?

Open this page in Chrome or Edge, drag the PNGs in from File Explorer, put them in order and press Create PDF. Pages match each image and the pixels are kept losslessly. Windows’ own Print to PDF works too, but it fits images to paper.

How do I combine PNG files into one PDF?

Select all the PNGs at once, or add them in several goes, then drag the thumbnails into the order you want. Each PNG becomes one page of a single PDF.

Is the PNG to PDF conversion lossless?

Yes, with Keep PNGs lossless on, which is the default here: each PNG’s pixels are stored unchanged at full resolution. Switch it off to trade that for smaller JPEG pages.

Why is my PDF bigger than my PNG files?

Your PNGs are probably photos. Lossless pages store every pixel, and photos compress poorly that way, so the PDF can be larger than the PNGs. Switch off Keep PNGs lossless to get JPEG pages a fraction of the size.

Can screenshots of different sizes go in one PDF?

Yes. With Fit image, every page takes the size and shape of its own screenshot, so a wide desktop capture and a tall phone capture sit in the same PDF without white borders or cropping.

How do I convert PNG to PDF on my phone?

Open this page in Chrome on Android or Safari on iPhone, tap the box and pick the screenshots from your gallery or Files. Put them in order, create the PDF and share it straight from your downloads.

Are your PNG files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your PNG files are processed by your own browser on your own device. There is no server that receives files, so nothing is uploaded, stored or shared. You can even switch to airplane mode once the page has loaded.
