TIFF to JPG Converter

Convert TIFF to JPG and turn huge scans and print files into small images you can email, upload or share. TIF files work too. A batch converts at once, quality is yours to choose, and a 4.5 MB test TIFF came out as a 396 KB JPG at 90%. The files are decoded in your browser and never uploaded.

How it runs

WebAssembly codecs
Images are encoded with Squoosh-grade codecs (MozJPEG, WebP, AVIF, OxiPNG, JPEG XL). Each codec loads only when you use it.
GPU canvas
Pixels are drawn and composited with the GPU-accelerated canvas.

Why are TIFF files so big?

Because TIFF is built to preserve everything. Scanners and print workflows save TIFFs uncompressed or with lossless compression, often with 16 bits per channel, CMYK colour or extra layers. JPG keeps 8 bits per channel and compresses lossily, which is why the same page shrinks by around 90%.

What is a TIFF file?

A TIFF file (Tagged Image File Format) is a flexible container for high-quality images, created in 1986 and now maintained by Adobe. Scanners, fax software, professional cameras and print shops use it because it can store lossless pixels, high bit depths, several pages and printing details in one file. That flexibility makes TIFFs heavy and unevenly supported: Chrome, Edge and Firefox do not display them, and email or upload limits are quickly exceeded.

TIF vs TIFF: is there a difference?

No. .tif and .tiff are the same format; the three-letter ending dates from systems that only allowed three-character extensions. This converter accepts both and treats them identically.

Does TIFF to JPG lose quality?

A little, by design. JPG is lossy, so very fine detail is simplified; at 90% the result looks the same as the TIFF on screen and in normal prints. Two other things change: images with more than 8 bits per channel are reduced to 8 bits, and transparent areas are filled with the colour you choose (white by default). Keep the original TIFFs if you might need them for professional printing or heavy editing later.

What happens with multi-page TIFFs?

You get one JPG per TIFF file: the largest page in it, or the first page when all pages are the same size. Thumbnails stored alongside the main image are skipped. If you need every page of a multi-page scan, open it in your scanner or PDF software and export the pages as separate images first, then convert them here or combine them with images to PDF.

Convert TIFF to JPG on Windows, Mac or a phone

The converter runs in any current browser. The built-in tools work for single files.

Windows

Paint opens most TIFFs and saves one at a time with File → Save as → JPEG picture. For a stack of scans, select them in File Explorer and drag them onto this page.

Mac

Preview opens TIFF files and exports the current page with File → Export → JPEG. Here a whole batch converts at once.

iPhone and Android

Open this page in Safari or Chrome, tap the drop zone and choose the TIFFs from Files or Downloads. The JPGs are saved to the same places.

Why convert TIFF to JPG with ProMedia

  • Scans stay private. Contracts, IDs and medical documents are decoded on your device and never uploaded.
  • No size limits. Large TIFFs do not need to travel to a server, so there is no upload cap.
  • Batch and quality control in one place: convert many files at a quality you choose.
  • Free and watermark-free, and offline-capable: the TIFF decoder is cached after your first conversion.

Tips & troubleshooting

  • Emailing scanned pages? Combine them into one document with images to PDF after converting.

  • Upload form with a KB limit? Use Compress Image to KB on the converted JPG.

  • Large poster or 600 dpi scans: set Max size (longest side) to 2048 px under Advanced settings for a much lighter file.

  • Need lossless output instead? Choose PNG in the image converter.

TIFF to JPG Converter FAQ

How do I convert TIFF to JPG?

Drop the TIFF files on this page, keep the quality at 90% and press Convert. Download each JPG or all of them as a ZIP. It works in any current browser on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android.

Why are TIFF files so big?

TIFFs from scanners and print workflows are usually uncompressed or losslessly compressed, often with 16-bit colour or several pages. JPG uses lossy compression and 8-bit colour, so the same image is around 90% smaller.

What is the difference between TIF and TIFF?

There is none: both endings mean the same format. This converter accepts .tif and .tiff files alike.

Does TIFF to JPG lose quality?

Slightly, because JPG is lossy, but not visibly at 90%. High bit depths are reduced to 8 bits per channel, and transparent areas are filled with a solid colour.

Can I convert a multi-page TIFF?

Each TIFF gives one JPG of its largest page, or of the first page when all pages are the same size. Export the other pages separately if you need them all.
