Settings explained
- Lossless
- Pixel-perfect, larger files.
- Fill transparent areas with
- JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent pixels get this colour.
- Keep metadata (EXIF)
- Off removes camera details, dates and GPS location — safer when sharing. On keeps them.
Formats
Batch-friendly: add many files and they are processed one after another — if one fails, the rest still finish.
How it runs
- WebAssembly codecs
- Images are encoded with Squoosh-grade codecs (MozJPEG, WebP, AVIF, OxiPNG, JPEG XL). Each codec loads only when you use it.
- GPU canvas
- Pixels are drawn and composited with the GPU-accelerated canvas.

How do I convert an image to JPG on iPhone or Windows?
On either device, open this page in the browser, add the images, leave Convert to on JPG and press Convert. On an iPhone, tap the drop zone and pick from your photo library; HEIC photos come out as standard JPGs. On Windows, drag files from File Explorer, including formats Windows cannot open by itself, such as HEIC or AVIF. You can also paste a copied image with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V.
Built-in routes exist too: Paint on Windows converts one file at a time (File → Save as), the iPhone Shortcuts app has a Convert Image action, and on a Mac you can use Preview’s File → Export or Finder’s right-click → Quick Actions → Convert Image.
Is JPG the same as JPEG?
Yes. JPG and JPEG are two spellings of one format; the three-letter .jpg comes from old Windows file names, which allowed only three-letter extensions. .jfif, .jpe and .pjpeg files are JPEGs too. If a form rejects .jpeg or .jfif, you do not need to re-compress the picture: the JFIF to JPG converter keeps the JPEG data exactly and only changes the extension to .jpg.
What the settings do
- Quality (JPG, WebP, AVIF, JPEG XL): 85% by default. Lower means smaller files; 75–90% looks the same as the original for most photos.
- Lossless (WebP, JPEG XL): keeps every pixel. Ideal for graphics, much larger for photos.
- Fill transparent areas with (JPG, BMP): the colour that replaces transparency, white by default.
- Max size (longest side): scales big images down to 4096, 2048, 1920, 1280 or 1024 px.
- Keep metadata (EXIF): off removes camera details and GPS; on keeps them in JPG, PNG and WebP.
Why use this image converter
- No upload, no limits. Your browser does the work, so there is no file-size cap, queue or daily quota.
- Reads awkward formats. HEIC, AVIF, TIFF, BMP, ICO, SVG and JPEG XL inputs are decoded on the page.
- Animation where it can stay. Animated GIF and WebP stay animated when converted to GIF or WebP; other formats keep the first frame.
- Free, no watermark, offline-capable. Each encoder is cached the first time you use it, so later conversions work without a connection.
Tips & troubleshooting
Converting to make files smaller rather than to change format? The image compressor adds target sizes and a before/after slider.
Need exact pixel dimensions as well? Convert here, then use the image resizer.
Want one PDF instead of many images? Use images to PDF.
Image Converter FAQ
How do I change an image format?
Drop the image on this page, choose the new format under Convert to and press Convert. The converted file downloads with the same name and the new extension.
Which image format should I use?
JPG for photos that must open everywhere, PNG for screenshots, logos and transparency, WebP or AVIF for the smallest web images. GIF, ICO, TIFF and BMP are for animation, icons and software that asks for them.
Is JPG the same as JPEG?
Yes, they are one format with two spellings. To turn .jpeg or .jfif files into .jpg without re-compressing, use the JFIF to JPG converter.
How do I change a JFIF file to JPG?
A JFIF is already a JPEG with a different extension. The JFIF to JPG converter renames whole batches losslessly; converting here works too but compresses the picture again.
Can my browser create AVIF and JPEG XL?
Yes. ProMedia ships its own encoders compiled to WebAssembly, so it works even in browsers that cannot encode or display those formats natively.
Is location data removed?
By default, yes: EXIF data including GPS is dropped. Turn on Keep metadata (EXIF) under Advanced settings to keep it in JPG, PNG or WebP output.
