WebP to PNG Converter

Convert WebP to PNG with every transparent pixel intact. Stickers, logos, icons and screenshots saved from the web come out as PNG files that any editor, slide deck or design app opens. The conversion is lossless, works on a whole batch at once and happens in your browser, so the images are never uploaded.

How it runs

GPU canvas
Pixels are drawn and composited with the GPU-accelerated canvas.

WebP vs PNG: what is the difference?

Both formats can be lossless and both keep transparency. The difference is reach and size: PNG has been readable by almost every program since the late 1990s, while WebP files are smaller but still rejected by some editors and upload forms. Converting WebP to PNG trades bytes for compatibility.

How to convert WebP to PNG without losing transparency

Just convert it: PNG has a full alpha channel, so soft shadows, rounded corners and anti-aliased edges are copied exactly as the WebP stored them. You do not need to set anything. The only setting that touches transparency on this site is the fill colour for JPG output, and it does not apply here.

If a converted PNG suddenly shows a black or white box, the WebP itself had no transparency; the background was part of the picture. To cut a subject out of such an image, run the PNG through the background remover.

Not sure whether an image has transparency at all? After converting, look at the result preview: transparent areas show the checkerboard pattern behind the picture.

Does converting WebP to PNG reduce quality?

No. PNG stores exactly the pixels decoded from the WebP, so nothing new is lost. If the WebP was saved lossy, its existing softness stays visible, because no converter can bring back detail that compression already removed.

What changes is the file size. Photos grow a lot as PNG: our 1536 × 1024 test photo went from a 202 KB WebP to a 2.6 MB PNG. Flat graphics such as logos grow far less. If you only need a photo to open in an app, WebP to JPG gives a much smaller file.

What is a WebP file?

A WebP file is a Google image format from 2010 that many websites now serve instead of PNG and JPG, because it makes pages lighter. It comes in a lossy flavour for photos and a lossless flavour for graphics, and both support transparency. Messaging apps also use WebP for stickers, which is why so many downloaded stickers end in .webp.

How to save a WebP image as PNG

Save the image normally first (right-click → Save image as). Your browser keeps the .webp ending because that is what the site delivered. Then add the file here and press Convert; the PNG keeps the same name with a .png ending.

Working from a phone? Long-press the image, save it, then open this page in your browser and pick the file from your downloads or photos.

Convert WebP to PNG on Windows, Mac or a phone

Every current browser runs the converter, so the method is the same on each device. Built-in options exist, but they are slower for a whole folder.

Windows

Paint can open many WebP files and save them with File → Save as → PNG picture. For a set of stickers or icons, drop them all here and download one ZIP.

Mac

Preview exports one image at a time with File → Export → PNG. A batch is quicker here, and the transparency is kept the same way.

iPhone and Android

Open this page in Safari or Chrome, tap the drop zone and select the WebP files. The PNGs download to Files on iPhone and to Downloads on Android.

Why convert WebP to PNG with ProMedia

  • Nothing leaves your device. The WebP is decoded and the PNG written by your browser; upload-based converters get a copy of each image.
  • Batch in one go. Convert a full sticker pack or icon set and download a single ZIP. A damaged file does not stop the rest.
  • Transparency without settings. No background colour to pick and no flattening, so cut-outs stay cut out.
  • Free, no account, no watermark. Once the page has loaded it also keeps working offline.

Tips & troubleshooting

  • PNG too heavy for a website or chat? Shrink it with Compress PNG, which keeps the transparency.

  • Need the sticker larger for print? Upscale the PNG with the AI image upscaler instead of stretching it.

  • Sticker packs often come as dozens of files: select them all at once, convert and download a single ZIP.

  • Keep Keep metadata (EXIF) off for images you will share; it is off by default.

WebP to PNG Converter FAQ

How do I convert WebP to PNG without losing transparency?

Convert it here with the default settings. PNG supports full transparency, so every transparent and semi-transparent pixel is copied exactly. Only JPG output needs a fill colour, and that option does not apply to PNG.

Does converting WebP to PNG reduce quality?

No. The PNG holds the same pixels as the decoded WebP, without any new compression loss. If the WebP was lossy, its existing artefacts remain, but nothing is added.

Should I convert WebP to JPG or PNG?

PNG for images with transparency, text or sharp lines; JPG for photos you want to share, because the files are much smaller. WebP to JPG handles the photo case with a quality slider.

Why is my PNG so much bigger than the WebP?

PNG is lossless and less efficient than WebP, especially for photos. Our test photo grew from 202 KB to 2.6 MB. Graphics grow much less. Compress PNG can reduce the size with a smaller colour palette.

Can I convert an animated WebP to PNG?

This page saves the first frame as a still PNG. To keep the animation in a widely supported format, use WebP to GIF.

How do I open a WebP file on Windows or Mac?

Drag it into any browser tab; Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all display WebP. Recent versions of the Windows Photos app and the Mac’s Preview open it too. Programs that still refuse WebP will open the PNG you convert here.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Decoding and encoding happen inside your browser on your device, so there is no server copy. That also means no size cap and no queue.
